Universal studios in Singapore is the stuff of dreams. Wait… Let me correct myself there. Universal Studios in Singapore is the stuff of movies. That’s kind off a pun I guess. Theme parks are all the rage all over the world.
Coming from the small state of Goa in India, theme parks are not exactly what we are used to. We’ve heard of them, we’ve dreamed of them and yet visiting them has not been easy because we don’t have any in the vicinity unless you count water kingdom and EsselWorld which are in Maharashtra.
My point is that heading to Universal studios was a big thing for me. Almost as big as Disneyland in Paris was. And even though I’m all grown up, we had an amazing time. One for the books and one for the memories, if you know what I mean!
It is definitely a place that you would want to add to your Singapore itinerary!
Location And Entrance Fees To Universal Studios
Universal studios in Singapore is located on Sentosa island. Getting there is pretty simple enough and its such a popular destination that you really don’t require any landmarks. The park is open every day from 10 am to 6 pm. At least that is when the rides function. There are a couple of shows that run post 6 pm and the restaurants are definitely open.
The day pass entrance fees to Universal Studios in Singapore is SGD 76 for anyone who is between 13-59 years of age. Tickets for children (4-12 years) are SGD 56 and anyone over the age of 60 years pays SGD 38. There are a couple of other types of passes that you can take. Some of them include the other attractions on Sentosa island.
Quick Tips For A Perfect Day At Universal Studios In Singapore
Universal Studios in Singapore is a popular tourist attraction. It is also quite popular among the locals too. That means that the park is bound to get crowded. A crowded park means that it can get difficult to have your perfect experience. Here are a few tips that helped make sure that our day was amazing, and they should help you too.
- Pick a weekday to visit Universal Studios in Singapore if you have the choice. Avoid holidays. That in itself means that you will have smaller crowds. You can’t avoid them altogether, but it does mean shorter lines for each ride. If you can’t go on a weekday then think about getting an express pass if possible.
- Arrive early. By arriving early, you beat most of the crowds. That means that you have shorter lines.
- Don’t forget to get a map of the park and the schedule for the shows. It will help you navigate around. Universal Studios in Singapore isn’t very large, and all sections of the park are easily accessible. That means that you can plan your day well.
- When a show is airing it in inadvertently means that the rides in the vicinity have shorter lines and when it ends those lines tend to grow. That way you know where you want to be and where you don’t want to be at a particular time.
Facilities For Guests With Disabilities In Universal Studios
Universal Studios in Singapore has certain facilities that are set in place for people with disabilities. It is important to understand that Electric Convenience Vehicle are not allowed on the rides for safety purposes. You can also get a complimentary Rider’s guide for rider’s safety for guests with disabilities. If you do need a wheelchair to move about Universal Studios, then you can get one at the entrance of the park.
Universal Studios Park Layout
As with every theme park, Universal Studios in Singapore can seem overwhelming at first. You can’t help wondering if you will be able to experience everything and if you will be able to do your favourite rides twice. So, take a deep breath and look at the park layout. You will quickly realise that the park is almost like a circle and the different sectors in the park are like slices of a pizza. Getting to the centre of the Universal Studios in Singapore means that you can access all parts of the park. Universal Studios in Singapore is widely divided into seven segments.
Hollywood
The New York part of Universal Studios in Singapore.
You can’t not enter Hollywood. It is the first sector of Universal Studios in Singapore and the moment you step into the park, you step into Hollywood. When we visited the park, there were no rides in Hollywood. A lot of shops and cute décor that put you in the mood for the day. Some of the shows also take place in Hollywood. The kids were getting cute trolls make up. There are a couple of Character meet and greets organized during the day that take place in Hollywood. So, look around and smile, Hollywood just signifies the beginning of an amazing day.
Madagascar
I loved the Madagascar section of Universal Studios in Singapore.
On the left of Hollywood is Madagascar. Madagascar had two interesting rides namely Madagascar: A Crate adventure and King Julien’s Beach Party-Go-Around. It also has the Madagascar Boogie where you can see the characters from the Madagascar movie come to life. You need to check on the timings for the Madagascar Boogie though. It isn’t a continuous show and you should check your show list to know when to visit it.
NOTE
- King Julien’s Beach Party-Go-Around requires that children under 122 cm should be accompanied by a supervising companion
- Madagascar: A Crate Adventure has a minimum height requirement of 80 cm. Children between the height of 80-122 cms need to be supervised.
Far Far Away
The Puss in Boots’ Giant journey.
This part of Universal Studios in Singapore is all about the movie Shrek and Puss In Boots. Far Far Away has attractions for people of all ages. The Enchanted airways is a roller coaster that takes you through the magical world of Far Far Away. There is a Ferris wheel called Magical Potion Spin where you can meet all the magical creatures from Shrek and ride with them. Last but not the least, go on Puss In Boots’ Giant journey which is a roller coaster.
If you are in the area at the right time don’t forget to join in for Donkey Live which is a funny interactive show. Then there are always Character meet and greets.
NOTE

The Lost World
You just can’t miss the Water World show.
The Lost World is all about Jurassic Park, but you already knew that didn’t you? It is also one of the most popular parts of Universal Studios in Singapore. One of the reasons why it is popular is Water World. Water World is show put on by some really talented artists who perform death defying stunts. The show happens twice a day and it is wise to make note of it in advance, so you don’t miss it.
There are four rides in the Lost World. Canopy Flyer takes you on a flight through the lost world. You get to see the land with a bird’s eye view. Dino-Soarin is for children when they can fly their very own Pteranodon or alternatively they can scale the rocks at Amber Rock Climb. Jurassic Park Rapids Adventure was my favourite ride in this section of Universal Studios in Singapore. It involves getting in a raft and bouncing through the rapids of a river flowing through Jurassic Park. Pretty cool! Did I mention that you get to see the dinosaurs up close?
NOTE
- Canopy Flyer requires a minimum height of 92 cm. Children between the height of 92- 122 cm should be accompanied by a supervising companion.
- Dino-Soarin and Amber Rock Climb require that children under 122 cm should be accompanied by a supervising companion.
- Jurassic Park Rapids Adventure requires a minimum height of 107 cm. Children between the height of 107- 122 cm should be accompanied by a supervising companion.
Ancient Egypt
The level of detail in Ancient Egypt just blew our mind!
Ancient Egypt is a smaller section of Universal Studios in Singapore, but it is the really cool section. This section is modelled after the movie called ‘The Mummy’. Definitely one of my favourites. There are two rides in this section. ‘Treasure Hunters’ is the first one and is great for smaller children. They can drive their own desert jeep through an old Egyptian excavation site. The other ride is called ‘Revenge of the Mummy’. It is a high-speed rollercoaster that takes you through different parts of the movie. Really cool… Really scary!
NOTE
- Treasure Hunters requires that children under 122 cm should be accompanied by a supervising companion.
- Revenge of the Mummy is a high-speed rollercoaster that takes lace in complete darkness. It includes sudden, dramatic acceleration, climbing, dropping, tilting and backward motion. Universal Studios maintains that people need to be in good physical shape to take part in this ride.
- Revenge of the Mummy requires a minimum height of 122 cm.
SCI-FI City
This was one awesome ride!
The Sci-Fi City has some of the best rides. That however comes with a catch. These ides are usually for adults or children above a certain height, so you may want to check before heading there in order to avoid a tantrum. Battlestar Galactica is a highspeed rollercoaster that has to parts: Human and Cylon. The humans are on the red track and sit in a ship.
The Cylons are on the grey track and their legs dangle off their seats. (I know super cool and super scary!). The Transformers ride is also cool. It’s a 3D battle and I think it is one of the best 3D simulations that I have seen in my life! The last is the Accelerator. To be honest we somehow missed this ride, so I can’t tell you a lot about it.
NOTE
- Battlestar Galactica a high-speed turbulent rollercoaster. It includes sudden, dramatic acceleration, climbing, dropping and tilting motion. Universal Studios maintains that people need to be in good physical shape to take part in this ride.
- The Minimum height requirement for Battlestar Galactica is 125 cm.
- The Accelerator requires that children under 122 cm should be accompanied by a parent or guardian.
- The Transformers ride requires a minimum height of 102 cm. Children between 102-122 cm should be accompanied by a supervising companion.
New York
Catching a show!
New York has a couple of shows that you would find interesting. The Rockafellas is one of the awesome ones. Don’t forget to head over to ‘Lights Camera Action’ to see how Steven Spielberg changes an empty stage into a major hurricane. Participate in the Sesame Street Spaghetti Space Chase or just meet and greet the Sesame street characters.
NOTE
- Lights, Camera, Action requires that children under 122 cm should be accompanied by a parent or guardian.
- Sesame Street Spaghetti Space Chase requires a minimum height of 92 cm. Children between 92-122 cm should be accompanied by a supervising companion.
Universal Studios in Singapore is an amazing place to spend the day. Getting through the lines on a busy day may be a task so on weekends and on holidays you may want to choose to buy an express pass. We spent our time in Universal Studios on a weekday and the lines took us anywhere from 20 to 40 minutes. The waits however were so worth it and most of the waiting areas are so interesting.

Well, I knew it must be fun, my friends in Singapore love it yet didn't explain so in depth why I should actually see and do there. Awesome entertainment seems like! I was in Sentosa but briefly, like half day last time, yet I am curious about US as well

Great guide, Penny! You really broke it down for anyone visiting. I love how it is divided into different sections and each one is so different than the other. I haven't been to a Universal in a long time, but loved it and had no idea there was one in Singapore. Great idea for next time we fly through.

Thanks Susanna. I think the Universal Studios in Singapore is the closest one we have to India so probably why it landed up on my radar. The US is a far way out sadly. You kinda wonder if it is fun once you've grown up and then when you go visit, you realize that there is a child hidden inside of you!
