Best Cafes And Restaurants in Wroclaw

Best Cafes And Restaurants in Wroclaw

One of the main reasons why I wanted to visit Poland was because the of the food. I had heard a lot about the Polish cuisine but never had the opportunity to try a lot of it. As a big foodie, the journey appealed to me. Our first stop was in Wroclaw. We found that there were great places to eat and the cost did not have to break the bank.

Some of the best restaurants in Wroclaw that we dined at are chronicled below. I’ve also included some of the milk bars, cafes and bakeries that you should add to your list because as a true foodie, I just couldn’t leave them out!

Wroclaw also has a lot going on in terms of night life and themed bars. Obviously we managed to get to these too. Since this is Europe, the kids are more than welcome to join so many of these are kid friendly with some kid friendly drinks (mocktails) so they can join in too.

Milk Bars

If you want to eat local, home cooked meals then you should head to one of the milk bars in the city. Contrary to their names, they don’t serve milk but a huge variety of different Polish specialities.

1. Bar Mleczny Mis

Bar Mleczny Mis is one of the cheap and most popular restaurants in Wroclaw

This is the absolute best place to eat Polish food in Wroclaw. It would be remiss of me not to mention Bar Mleczny Mis as the first of the best restaurants in Wroclaw because the food is exceptional. You will find the place just by the lines to get inside. The downside is that it is crowded so finding a table can prove to be a challenge.

Another challenge is ordering. You need to know what you want to eat here. My recommendation is the goulash and the pierogi. I tried the pierogi ruski and one with spinach. Both were excellent. Don’t forget to try the kompot too!

Oh and we had a lot of food and came out with a bill of under 10 euros that fed four of us!

2. Bar Mleczny – Jacek I Agatka

Bar Mleczny - Jacek I Agatka is a milk bar and one of the best restaurants in Wroclaw

Another great milk bar is the Bar Mleczny – Jacek I Agatka. This was just around the corner of our accommodation in Wroclaw. It is also as busy but not quite as much as the previous milk bar. It has a better seating area and plenty of options. The prices are slightly higher here. The one advantage of coming here is that it has an English translation for the menu which helps. I found the people at the counter were so kind and helpful when we stumbled and struggled with the words.

The food was excellent. The soups were in a category of their own and since the day was cold it was even more appreciated.

Other Great Restaurants In Wroclaw

3. Oh My Pasta

Oh my Pasta is great if you want an Italian restaurant in Wroclaw

One of the best restaurants in Wroclaw that we walked into quite by chance was Oh My Pasta. The kids were hungry, it was cold and the huge wheel of cheese where the pasta was being made looked incredibly appetizing. A quick check on Google told us that for the better part most of the reviews were good so we decided to try it.

It turned out to be a great idea. There is a small sitting area indoors which is great when the weather is cold. It also has an outdoors seating area. We chose to be indoors where we could watch the pasta being made. This kept the kids pretty occupied.

The pasta in itself was delicious. Handmade and the flavors were very on point. You can choose from a variety of toppings are we chose shrimp. The quantity was great too. More than enough for a meal for one adult.

4. MASZTO

zapiekanki is one of streetfood items that is popular in Poland

If you want to try the famous open faced sandwiches of Poland called zapiekanki then the best place to do so is in MASZTO. The restaurant/cafe has a cool ambiance with some nice seating area. The sandwiches are basically made on top of one half of a baguette that is toasted and then topped with a variety of toppings. Lastly cheese is loaded onto it before it is popped into the oven for another round.

It is served hot with a couple of sauces of your choice. Now there are many different versions to these. The toppings differ depending on the one you choose. I must warn you though. These are huge so you need to be hungry to eat more than one. You can see why this is a hot favorite when it comes to the restaurants in Wroclaw.

5. Konspira

I don’t have any photographs of this particular restaurant in Wroclaw because we learnt about it rather last minute. We walked past it after we were done with our last meal for the trip which was rather sad because it is one of the best restaurants in Wroclaw for Polish food. It is also a bit more expensive than the other restaurants that I have mentioned above and is more fine dining.

Konspira is an old world kinda restaurant. Its walls are brick and its ambiance is cozy. It takes you back to the 80s in Poland. The food is excellent and is served in true Polish style with large quantities which more than makes up for the price tag. So its key that you go with a huge appetite.

You can’t reserve a table here. Its first come first serve so I would recommend coming a little earlier in the evening so you aren’t stuck in line.

6. Pierogarnia Rynek 26

You can't leave Wroclaw without trying pierogi

If you’ve been to Poland before, you will know that one of the main dishes that everyone eats is pierogi. These are dumplings that are stuffed with a variety of different fillings. It is very very popular and you should definitely not leave without trying some.

Pierogarnia Rynek is located at the center square and serves a large variety of pierogi. I have to warn you though that since this is in the center square, it is a bit more expensive and is a big tourist hotspot. This also means that you treated to one of the best views in the city. If you don’t mind this, you will find that it is definitely one of the top restaurants in Wroclaw for a meal.

Cafes & Bistros

There’s a reason why I’m adding the cafes and bistros to my list. Al too often the Polish food got too heavy for me. I needed a light meal for myself. Now while there were plenty of bakeries (I’ll talk about that in a bit), I found that the cafes were a great option for a light meal if you wanted to sit down somewhere. This worked great for the kids too. Here are some of my all time favorites.

7. Chmiel Kawe

Chmiel Kawe is a nice low key place to hang out in Wroclaw

Chmiel Kawe is a very cozy café. It doesn’t have a lot in terms of food but it offers some of the best coffee that I have had in the city. Where it really does shine is with its macaroons. I lost count of how many we ate. This was after an early meal. We sat here for two hours with our children and loved the ambiance. The people here are very warm too.

8. Etno OVO Cafe

Etno OVO Cafe is definitely one of my favorite spots for a meal in Wroclaw

A little a bit away from the center is the Etno OVO cafe. Now there’s a mixed bag of reviews when it comes to the food here. I would say that the majority of the reviews are related to the shakshuka which isn’t great. Aside form that the food is great with some amazing coffee. We ordered a number of things including puddings and cakes. Nothing disappointed.

A couple of things to note here. There is plenty of seating space but it is a popular spot so you may have to wait a bit. There are plenty of options and there isn’t an English menu but the staff are more than willing to help you decipher everything despite the rush.

9. Kocia Kawiarnia

Love cats? Then this cafe is definitely one that should be on your list of best cafes and restaurants in Wroclaw. The cats are super energetic. You’ll find them interacting with the patrons and moving round freely. The staff are also super helpful. The vibe is generally very chill and its is a short walk away from the main square.

If you are wondering what is the best thing to eat here, then try the salmon bagel. Its amazing and so delicious. Definitely one of the fastest selling products in the café.

10. FC Cafe

FC Cafe is one of the most popular cafes in Wroclaw which means finding a seat here is pretty hard. It does not matter what time you head here, it is always bustling. That’s what makes it perfect if you want to sit at a place that is bustling and full of life.

The ambiance is not the only thing that makes the place lively. The food and coffee is well loved here which is the primary reason why everyone visits. It isn’t far from the center of the city which makes it ideal.

Themed Pubs

11. Pub Pod Trzema Miotlami

Harry Potter themed pubs are so in vogue and I’ve been to a few but I have to say that Pub Pod Trzema Miotlami is the best yet. It wasn’t over the top with the decorations but everything that was placed made the whole set up cozy. Plus there were many interactive sections where you could use props to pose.

The menu is simple when it comes to the food but extremely creative when it comes to the drinks. One thing that we liked was the wide array of alcoholic (including butterbeer) and non alcoholic drinks. That made it extremely welcoming for the kids and fun too. Who wouldn’t like a smoking mocktail?

Best Foodie Tours In Wroclaw

Sometimes when you are in the city for a short time it is hard to decide where to eat or what to for that matter. This can be overwhelming in Poland too. If finding a good restaurant in Wroclaw is getting you down because you want a taste of the local cuisine, I would recommend booking a food tour.

The food your is about 2.5 hours long and takes you through the city with a local guide who will explain all about the local food and cultures. Its a small group so you won’t get lost in a crowd.

“Vlada was an excellent guide sharing about the history and types of Polish cuisine and also highlighting different parts of Wroclaw.”

The tour takes you to four or five places and allows you to sample anywhere between 15-20 local delicacies. It is a great way to spend the evening and make like minded friends. Just make sure that you come with an appetite.

Did I mention that you will also get to try a shot of Polish vodka and the famous local craft beer. While I am not a fan of beer, Shawn really enjoyed his tastings in the city.

I’ve tried to chronicle all our experiences into ne single post about the different restaurants in Wroclaw but its hard. We stopped at so many different places, ate so much of food and were perpetually in a food coma. Now if that appeals to you then you should know that Wroclaw is absolutely a foodies paradise.
