We spent four nights in Bratislava because the city was so well situated. Obviously, we spent a lot of time eating here too. Food is generally affordable and good especially if you know where to eat. Luckily there are plenty of restaurants in Bratislava that offer up all kinds of different cuisine.
You generally don’t even have to go quite far to find a good spot. The city in itself is small so everything is just a short walk away. Many of the cafes are also a great place to chill at if the weather takes a turn for the worse. That’s one of the cool tricks that we picked up when it rained during our stay. Not only did the kids warm up here but I got a chance to work too.
Now if you are just on the look out for the best restaurants in Bratislava, don’t worry. Literally every corner has something to eat. You don’t need a car or any other mode of transport. Just stop and have a bite wherever you please. Some places are better than others though and these were our top picks!

Best Restaurants In Bratislava: Near The Castle
There aren’t a whole load of different restaurants in Bratislava right next to the castle but unless it’s raining or you are too hungry to walk down the hill, it really won’t matter because the Old Town is really close by. But don’t be disheartened because I have an uber cool spot for you here too!
1. Mackafe
If you love cats then Mackafe is the best place to visit.
Mackafe is a super cool café that is located right next to the castle. If you are on the lookout for cool themed restaurants in Bratislava then this is definitely one that you should add to your list. The specialty of this place is that it is a cat café and an espresso bar.
You can cuddle a cat or play with one depending on the mood of the cats. They are all super friendly and there are lots of different cat toys that you can use.
Alongside an impressive selection of coffees, they also have a variety of juices, yogurt based drinks, teas and more. I highly recommend trying the local cakes here. It is also a cool place to sit and work because the WIFI works great. In fact, I’m currently sitting in the café itself and typing this.
I’m a big fan of these cat centric restaurants. We have one in Groningen and in Amsterdam. There is even a cat café and espresso bar in Sweden!

2. Soupculture
I read that the people in Bratislava love their soup here and it should not surprise you because it does get pretty cold in the area. Soup is one of the best ways to warm up. Soupculture however is a bit different.
It does serve up hot soup in cups but the cups are edible. You can choose the flavor of the cups. I’m serious! You can really eat the cups! I tried the turmeric one and it was amazing.
The soups themselves are also good. I tried the cheese soup and loved it. Aside from that there are other flavors.
The three ones that we did not try were the lentil soup, broccoli soup and Indian dhal. The last one is the only spicy one on the list.
Aside from being a light meal, it can also be a neat snack on the go.

3. Slovak Pub
If you want to try out traditional slovak then one of the best restaurants in Bratislava is the Slovak Pub. This cool restaurant has a pretty traditional ambiance with its wooden beams and wooden decor. You can even hear traditional songs playing the background.
If you look around, you will also notice a lot of posters that talk about the history of the food in Slovakia.
The Slovak pub makes some of the best halusky in the city. You should also try the pierogi here. The craft beer is brewed in house and is pretty good too.
Aside from the ambiance of the place and the incredible food that it serves, you will find that it is pretty cost effective when you compare it to the other traditional restaurants in Bratislava.
Oh and if you are visiting with kids, you will find that it has a small kids play area too which is a great way to keep young children occupied.

4. Bistro Zepen House
Full disclosure, I haven’t eaten here but it was on my list of restaurants in Bratislava to eat at because it has a super cozy vibe. The menu is pretty decent and you will find that the place isn’t very expensive. Bistro Zepen House is known for its khachapuri. This is actually a traditional Georgian dish which resembles a pizza in a way. The portions are HUGE so make sure to order in moderation to start off.
Other great things to try are the pelmeni, vareniki and pierogi. They also have vegan alternatives which is really nice because I know a lot of my vegan friends have a hard time finding good vegan meals when they travel.
The restaurant comes highly recommended and was high on my list. Unfortunately for me, we ate a wee bit too much in the Slovak pub and couldn’t handle a single morsel after that.

Best Restaurants In Bratislava: Eurovea
Now if you move off towards the Eurovea mall, you will find yourself a bit of a distance away from the Old Town. There are loads of places to eat here and we really scoured the area because we lived right next door. I’ll be honest though, we spent most of our time in the budget restaurants in Bratislava here.
5. Chilantro
This is one of the nice budget restaurants in Bratislava to eat at if you want a heart warming meal. The place is located within the mall and it serves up bowls, burritos and tacos.
You also get to choose your protein. They have three options aka chicken and beef. Jackfruit is another option which means its great if you want a vegan or vegetarian meal.
Just ask them to skip the cheese and sour cream if you are vegan.
Another great thing about Chilantro is that it closes pretty late so it is also a good place to eat at if you need a late meal.

Hours: Open everyday from 10:30 am to 9pm
6. PhocKaren (Vietnamese)
This is one of the restaurants in Bratislava that we returned to time and time again.
While I usually prefer to eat the local food, I have not been able to find a good Vietnamese restaurant in Europe. One taste of the dishes here and I was transported back to the food in Vietnam. Trust me! It’s good.
We’ve tried the pho, the udon noodles and some of the curries. While the curries are a bit on the sweeter side, we were always given a serving of chopped chillies that we could add in to spice it up. Loved it!
In fact, on the days that we got home late, we put the kids to bed and had takeaway from here because it was close by.
Address: Pribinova 17130/26A, 821 09 Bratislava, Slovakia
Hours: Open everyday from 10am to 9 pm
7. Milletranci Bu Basilico
After a lot of searching the kids wanted pizza. We did not want to get a whole pizza because neither Shawn nor I were hungry so we decided to try out Milletranci. This is located in the Eurovea mall and it has an assortment of pizza slices that you can buy. Most of these are priced around 5 euros a piece.
The slices are pretty big and if you aren’t a big eater, one will definitely fill you up. For us, we halved the slice between both the kids are they were full by the end of it.
It also has a couple of different desserts that you can try out and you can even get a cup of coffee here too. There is always plenty of seating area around and I have never found it extra crowded.
Address: Pribinova, 821 09 Bratislava, Slovakia
Hours: Open everyday from 10am to 9pm
I’ll be the first to admit that this is not the largest and most comprehensive list of restaurants in Bratislava. It does however comprise of the best restaurants in Bratislava that we covered during our trip. They were super convenient to reach to, mostly budget friendly and served up some lip smacking food.
