If you visit the capital city of the Netherlands, you should take a look at staying in one of the hotels in the Museum Quarter in Amsterdam. This is especially true if you are a history or an art lover. The Museum Quarter or the Museumplein houses some of the most interesting museums of Amsterdam.
That however isn’t the only reason to stay here. The area is slightly further away from the main tourist hotspot so you don’t feel jostled quite as much. You still however can easily reach all parts of the city and its attractions by foot or public transport. I’ve walked all over with my two toddlers and pushed a stroller so trust me when I say that it is easy.
When it comes to food, you will find that there is no shortage of different restaurants, cafes and places to hang out. Just make sure to book your table in advance because during the busy days everything fills up quickly!
As you can see, there are loads of things to do in the Museum Quarter in Amsterdam. So staying in the area makes a lot of sense. We chose to go with the Amsterdam Marriott Hotel but since I’ve spent five days just researching the area for this post, I’ve documented some of the cool hotels in the Museum Quarter in Amsterdam that you should consider when booking your holiday.

One of the best things about the hotels in the Museum Quarter in Amsterdam is the abundance of luxury hotels. This is because the location is impeccable. Not only does it give you access to all the famous museums in the city, you can also visit Vondelpark and check out all the attractions in Leidesplein! Obviously, there is no shortage of good places to eat too!

I’m a big fan of the Marriott chain of hotels and have stayed in so many of their hotels all across the world. Shawn has been a Bonvoy member for very long so we obviously get the benefits that come with it. So when we stayed in Amsterdam recently it was an absolute no brainer to choose the Amsterdam Marriott hotel.
Now this may not be one of the hotels in the Museum Quarter in Amsterdam so it isn’t adjacent to all the museums but it’s about a five minute walk away which according to me is super good. Plus, it is close to all the restaurants nearby and has multiple tram stations in front of it which means you can get anywhere you want very easily.
The rooms here are decorated like all other Marriotts. Simple, tasteful and they are comfortable. We got upgraded to one of the suites so we had a bit more room which made the stay comfortable.
One of the reasons why I like staying in this brand is because they allow you to also book a second room (for your kids) at 50 percent off which absolutely makes sense if you think about it.
Plus they have these connecting rooms so you can always keep an eye on the kids if they are very young. It kind of becomes a two bedroom mini flat.
The breakfast that comes with the room is exquisite and it is open late so we could always snooze in and have a late start to the day if we wanted.

Breakfast is great and has long hours. For me, 24 hour, good gyms are important when jet lagged. This one was pretty good. The staff was very friendly and helpful.”

The executive lounge is a great place to chill too. Charles always greets everyone with a smile and that’s something that really added to the cheerful morning routine. Plus if you need anything special to meet your dietary requirements, he is the one to talk to!
Two inhouse restaurants are also present. Sorel where you can get snacks and have a drink and Mid Town Grill which serves a more refined fare.
As you can see, I’m literally raving about the hotel so you know that the Amsterdam Marriott hotel hit all the right notes during our stay. I highly recommend it! It is definitely one of the best hotels in the Museum Quarter in Amsterdam. Plus if you book in advance you can get a really good deal on the prices.

I walked past the Conservatorium Hotel on my way to the Stedelijk museum and stopped to admire the building. Despite the dull weather, this building really is gorgeous. At first, I did not realize that it was a hotel.
This was both because the building looks like a piece of history in itself and because it’s located right next to the Stedelijk museum.
Location wise, it just cannot get better than this when it comes to the hotels in the Museum Quarter in Amsterdam!
The rooms in this hotel are ultra luxurious and when you look out, you are treated to some of the most spectacular stories in the city. I mean, the hotel is located right next to all the most famous museums in the city.

When it comes to food, the Conservatorium Hotel has its own restaurant and bar. The food obviously matches the ambiance and it also comes with its own price tag but it is so worth it because this is fine dining at its finest!
Despite the fact that the hotel is in one of the older buildings in the city, you will find that it has huge windows which allows copious amounts of light in which makes the place very lively. The Lounge aka Amsterdam’s Living room is a testament to that!
3. Jan Luyken Amsterdam
Jan Luyken may look rather unassuming from the outside but it actually houses one of the best hotels in the Museum Quarter in Amsterdam.

The inside of the hotel is decorated super tastefully and it gives you a chance to enjoy the peaceful tree lined streets of Amsterdam. I know I said peace, which most people (including me!) don’t really associate with the city.

Jan Luyken Amsterdam is however close enough to the Museumplein to make it an easy walk and yet far enough to offer you an escape from the chaos of the city.
One of the biggest attractions of this hotel is the living space. Know how you don’t want to be out in the streets of Amsterdam when it is incredibly cold or when it’s raining? If you are looking for hotels in the Museum Quarter in Amsterdam, you are probably looking for places with a great location and the Hotel Van Gogh has just that. Located just opposite the Van Gogh museum, this means that you are also walking distance away from the other famous museums including the Rijksmuseum and the Stedelijk museum.
The Hotel Van Gogh is also very close to the Leidesplien which has loads of restaurants, cafes and other activities so you don’t have to worry about transport at all. Even if you want to head out a little further you will find that many of the trams and buses stop in the area so it’s easy to get about.

While this hotel doesn’t technically overlook all the museums, it does have a cool view of the canal and is pretty equidistant from the museums and all the other activities in the area including Leidesplien. This means that in less than 5 minutes (walking) you will reach your destination.

Plus its interiors are so cool and give you the feeling of all the luxury you could need. Oh and you know the famous MOMO restaurant that everyone is talking about? That’s part of this hotel!

Vondelpark is one of the best places in the city during spring and summer because the park is huge and filled with green and flowers. It is one of the lungs of the city and is well worth visiting. It is also close to the Museumplein. Now just next to it is the Stayokay Hostel Vondelpark.
This hostel is actually pretty famous in Europe. It has clean rooms which is something that you really want in a hostel. I know just what it’s like to get into a hostel and find the rooms lacking so this is particularly important for me.
It also has both dorms and rooms so if you want to choose a private room with a private bathroom, that is an option too.
Other facilities that it offers are lockers, luggage storage, laundry services, free WiFi, bicycle rental and more. You can even put in a request for baby cots so note that this is a family friendly option.
“It was very clean and spacious! The hangout area downstairs was a good vibe too. I felt like the beds were comfortable and while in the sleeping area everyone was extremely respectful. Showers/bathrooms are in your pod area so you don’t have to leave the room. In a great location! If you can’t walk the tram is a 5 min walk away. I personally didn’t mind the lockers being under the bed and they offered more than enough space for me.”

Another popular hostel in the area is the Flying Pig Uptown. This one is also located very close to the Museumplein in Amsterdam and it is super easy to get around.
The best part about staying here is the cost per bed in one of the dormitories can be as low as $20. The downside is that the shower and bathroom facilities are shared but luckily the hostel is very clean.

The staff are very friendly and helpful. I totally recommend this place, and I will stay in Flying Pig Uptown every time I visit Amsterdam.”
