The United States of America is one of those epic destinations that is on so many bucket lists. Everyone has their own reasons mind you. Some people want to head to beaches. Others head there in search of jobs. Many love the big cities. Me… The USA is on my bucket list because of all the amazing National parks that the country has.
If I ever get a chance I’m going to visit the National parks one by one and preferably camp there! The big cities may not hold that much allure but a good friend of mine Kelly, talks all about her home town in Travel New York Now and I’m legit hooked.
Anyway, I got sidetracked. I find it difficult to settle on a single destination when it comes to traveling through this huge country. The best way is to search locations by month. That’s how I was inspired to start this series of exploring the country by month. We are currently looking at all the amazing destinations to visit in July in the USA.
If you are interested in checking out the other months, just click on the links below.

5. Mount Rainier National Park, Washington
Mount Rainier National Park is the perfect spot to spend July in the USA if you like the outdoors!
Location: Mount Rainier National Park
Getting there: The park is located less than two hours southeast of Seattle, Washington. Note that the park is fairly huge- 370 square miles, to be exact- so drive time may be longer depending on where you’re headed in the park.
Where to stay: If you’re headed to Paradise, the park’s southernmost and most popular area, consider staying at the Paradise Inn, which sits at 5,400 feet of elevation on the behemoth’s slopes, just steps away from the park’s most popular trails.
While July may be the middle of summer for most of the country, Mount Rainier, Washington’s tallest mountain at 14,411 feet tall, is just starting to experience its spring in July, with melting snow, vibrant wildflowers, and rushing waterfalls.
By July, most of the best hikes in Mount Rainier are snow-free and at their most beautiful. For example, along the popular Skyline Trail, found in the aforementioned Paradise section, you’ll hike up through fields of impossibly colorful wildflowers, to come face to face with the massive Nisqually Glacier and several waterfalls of rushing glacial runoff.
The trail loops around through the rocky hillsides of Rainier, where you’ll pass chirping marmots, happily munching on alpine shrubs, and if you’re lucky, even a mountain goat or two!
Another Mount Rainier classic is the Mount Fremont Fire Lookout, in Sunrise, the northeast section of the park. Here, you’ll hike up and along a mountain ridge, to eventually reach a historic fire lookout, built in the 1930s to help rangers spot wildfires.
While the lookout is no longer used for this purpose, it still provides one of the best vistas of Rainier and the surrounding Cascades- plus, one of the best spots in the park to watch sunset.
Pro Tip: Hiking with small group tours is a great way to explore while making friends with likeminded people! You can even book one online.

The weather makes Cape Cod one of the top places to spend July in the USA.
Location: Cape Cod is a peninsula in the Eastern part of Massachusetts
Getting There: The closest international airport in Boston Logan, which is about 1.5-2 hours from Cape Cod, depending on what region you choose to stay in. This is the airport that most people choose to fly into, as the flights will be the most convenient and least expensive.
There are also two regional airports on Cape Cod that you can look into, Cape Cod Gateway Airport in Hyannis and Provincetown Municipal Airport, which is located at the very tip of the peninsula.

These towns include Harwich, Brewster, Dennis, Chatham and Orleans. These towns will have a quaint New England feel, as well as beaches and other things to do nearby.
Some people like to stay in the northern part of the Peninsula (called the Outer Cape), which includes towns like Wellfleet and Truro. These towns have easier access to the most beautiful beaches, and are a little more on the quiet side, but also an excellent option.

16. Bryce Canyon National Park, Utah
Bryce Canyon National Park is another interesting spot to spend July in the USA.
Location: Bryce Canyon National Park, Utah
Getting there: The easiest way to get to Bryce Canyon National Park is to fly into either Harry Reid International Airport in Las Vegas or Salt Lake City International Airport in Salt Lake City. From each of these airports, rent a car and drive to Bryce Canyon, Utah. It’s about a four-hour drive from both airports.
Where to stay: When choosing where to stay in Bryce Canyon, it’s best to stay near the entrance of the park so you can start your hikes early in the morning. The Best Western Plus Ruby’s Inn is right down the street from the entrance, has great rates, and also is part of the park’s shuttle system so you don’t even have to drive into the park.
When it comes to places to visit in July in the USA, do not overlook Bryce Canyon National Park! It’s one of the most underrated parks to visit in Utah because most people would rather visit Arches or Zion. However, this park is known for its bright orange rock spires called hoodoos, and it has beautiful hikes that will truly take your breath away.
Luckily, because Bryce is a lesser visited, it’s still rather easy to get parking inside the park, even in July. Be sure to start your days still early though; it’s best to get to the park around sunrise so you can witness the sun rising over the canyon in the morning. Right after the sun starts to rise, begin your day’s activities.
In July, Bryce Canyon National Park can get extremely hot, which is why the earlier you begin your day, the better. The majority of the trails at the park are very exposed without any shade, but in the mornings, you can normally hike in around 50-degree weather during the summer.
The absolute best thing to do right in the morning after witnessing the sunrise is to hike the Navajo Loop Trail. This is the most popular hike in the park for good reason. It features the scenic Wall Street, an incredible set of switchbacks leading to the canyon floor.
The hike is around 1.5 miles long, but add on the Peekaboo Loop for some extra mileage and scenic views if you’re feeling up to it.

Some people do excursions like this on a day trip or you can road trip from the city and stay closer to the National Park! There is a company called Pink Jeep Tours which takes the stress off of you and shuttle you around to some of these unique places! You can visit the Grand Canyon with them or even visit the Red Rock Canyon which is only about an hour from the Las Vegas Strip!
Another unique place to check out in Las Vegas in July is 7 Magic Mountains which is an art installation in the desert. The best part of this exhibit is that it is free and noticeably less busy during the month of July since the crowds tend to stay by the pool! It’s about 30 minutes from the Las Vegas strip and is best visited in the mornings when the temperatures are cooler.
