June In Europe: 15 Wonderful Locations To Visit

June in Europe is the perfect time to travel. The weather is perfect. In fact, it is the perfect time to visit almost all the countries in the continent. At this time of the year, expect to find picture perfect skies, a nice warm sun and loads of tourists. Yes! You aren’t the only person who thinks spending June in Europe is a great idea.

The key to finding the best spots to spend June in Europe is to head off the beaten path wherever you can. This helps you avoid a lot of the larger crowds. Don’t get me wrong. If you don’t mind the hustle and bustle, its a great time to visit the big cities. I personally prefer to mix it up. Pick a city or two for my trip and then pass through a lot of the less explored countryside.

I was curious about all the great places to spend June in Europe and since I haven’t been to a lot of places in the continent, I decided to reach out to travel experts, travel bloggers and locals. The list that we cumulatively put together is pretty impressive.

1. Lincoln, United Kingdom 

Lincoln is such a gorgeous place to spend June in Europe.

Getting There: Fly into London Heathrow or London Luton. It’s a 3-hour drive north from the airport. It’s also possible to catch a train to Lincoln International train station from Kings Cross National Rail station. 

Where To Stay: Lincoln is a magical city in the heart of the English countryside and home to a medieval Castle and breathtaking Cathedral. Due to its location, it’s possible to stay in the city center, amongst the hustle and bustle, or just outside town in country lodges and cottages. 

One of our favorite stays in Lincoln town centre is the Tavmar Rooms. It is an independent, boutique-style hotel with rooms located just off the high street. If you’re looking for something more quintessential, try the Lincoln Cottages in Boultham.

For all of its history, shopping and eateries, Lincoln is a superb place to visit in Europe during June time. With the start of the summer months, it’s a city full of character and soul.

The Castle comes alive with events from craft stalls to dressed-up knights telling stories; there are farmers’ markets and antique markets lining the cobbled streets while the Cathedral shines in all her glory!

It’s a great place for families but also for couples or solo travelers alike. 

Like any city, it has endless shops from colorful boutiques to famous high-street brands to interesting charity shops. The dining is fantastic; you’ll find fine dining, quirky cafes, and your every day, much-loved chains. However, the cherry on top is the architecture.

The quirky shops, narrow cobbled streets and old stone buildings which look like they might fall over make it a truly magical experience!

Lincoln is a wonderful city and deserves a weekend visit, at least, to enjoy its sites and activities – of which there are many…

2. Dublin, Ireland

Dublin is such an intriguing place to visit in June in Europe.

Getting There: Fly directly to Dublin Airport.

Where to Stay: Dublin’s marquee sights are concentrated in the City Centre. Choose a centrally located hotel near St Stephen’s Green, such as the Green Hotel, which is within walking distance from most major sights.

If you are looking for a great city to visit in June in Europe, then head to Dublin, Ireland. Dublin is a vibrant city with a deep cultural history, beautiful green spaces, and a thriving pub scene. June is one of the best months to visit Dublin because of the long days (June days have 17 hours of sunlight!), warmer temperatures, and festivals.

One of the best reasons to visit Dublin in June is to participate in the annual Bloomsday festivities. Every year on the 16th of June, Dubliners dress as characters from James Joyce’s epic novel, Ulysses, and celebrate Joyce’s life, legacy, and contributions to literature.

The festival includes live readings, dramatic reenactments, and pub crawls to local establishments featured in the novel. This unique celebration is indicative of the Irish love of literature, and a true Dublin experience.

June is also a wonderful time to take advantage of Dublin’s many outdoor activities, such as taking a Dublin Bay boat cruise to nearby Howth and Dún Laoghaire. From the boat, you’ll get a unique view of Dublin that’s impossible to see from land.

You’ll pass by iconic city landmarks such as the Poolbeg chimneys and lighthouse, Bull Island, and more. It’s a wonderful and relaxing way to learn about Dublin and take in the area’s natural scenic beauty.

However you decide to spend a June day in Dublin, make sure to leave yourself some time for a pint at the pub. Pub life is a central part of Irish culture, and there’s no better way to experience Dublin than grabbing a pint of Guinness, chatting with the locals, and enjoying the craic.

3. Nice, France

Nice is a beautiful place to spend June in Europe.

Getting There: Nice has its own international airport and train station, and is well-connected throughout Europe by plane and train. You can also fly into Marseille and drive the two hours over to Nice. 

Where To Stay: The Mercure Nice Marché aux Fleurs is a beautiful location in Old Town and near the sea, with great views over the water. 

Nice is a perfect destination when spending June in Europe, thanks to its combination of beautiful Mediterranean views and beaches, and the absolutely gorgeous city that has plenty to keep you engaged.

Nice is a great mix of Mediterranean and classic French architecture, accentuated with palm trees around the city. Plus, the whole city has a relaxed and laid back feel. 

In Nice, you can explore the cute Old Town, wandering the narrow winding streets that are painted in golden hues of orange, pink, and tan. Stop in at Place Rossetti for gelato and to see the church, or head to the Marché aux Fleurs to browse and shop at the farmer’s market. 

Besides the old town, during your stay in Nice you simply must walk the Promenade Des Anglais, a large, wide, gorgeous walkway that stretches 7 miles right along the Mediterranean.

You can access the beaches from the Promenade, which are very refreshing and popular in the heat of summer. 

You can even make it a road trip and head to cities like Marseille and Cannes from here. There are quite a few things to do in Marseille and Cannes which is what makes them great stops on the way.

Other attractions in Nice include the Matisse Museum, the Albert I Garden, the Old Port, Castle Hill, and the Notre Dame de l’Assomption church.

4. Paris, France

Paris is one of the top locations to spend June in Europe.

Location:  Paris, France

Temperatures in Paris, France in June:

Low:  13°C / 55.4°F

High:  23°C / 73.4°F

Getting There:  Most international visitors to Paris fly into the Charles de Gaulle Airport, which is northeast of Paris.   If you don’t want to spend on a taxi, take the RER (regional express train) from the airport to the center of Paris and then take the metro to get to your desired neighborhood.

Where To Stay:  Stay at the Hôtel du Cadran, a 4-star hotel in Paris’ Rue Cler neighborhood.  Rue Cler is a famous local market street, so start your day with luscious French pastries from the fabulous corner bakery.  Plus, it’s in a great location – -only 1 kilometer from the Eiffel Tower and Les Invalides.

June in Europe is an excellent time to visit Paris.  The city is not too crowded with tourists, and the weather is great with highs in the 70s.  Plus, the long summer days (16 hours of daylight!) give you plenty of time to explore all of the famous Paris attractions.

Start off your visit with a Seine River cruise on the bateaux mouches. The Seine cuts right through the heart of Paris.  You’ll be surprised by how many famous landmarks you can see from the river – Notre Dame, the Grand Palais, and the iconic Eiffel Tower. 

Fun fact about Paris, it has two islands in the city! It even has some of the most impressive bridges in France.

Paris is a city filled with incredible museums both large and small.  The Louvre, home to the Mona Lisa, is the most visited museum in the world, and the Musée d’Orsay houses the world’s biggest collection of Impressionist artwork. 

But don’t overlook smaller gems like the Rodin Museum or the Musée de l’Orangerie, which houses a spectacular set of Monet’s water lilies paintings.

The Palace of Versailles is one of the must-see attractions of Paris, and it is an easy day trip from Paris by train. Tour the palace and marvel at the ornate architecture and the stunning Hall of Mirrors.  

Be sure to leave plenty of time to explore the gardens of Versailles, decorated with classical statuary and incredible fountains. You won’t want to miss the spectacular night fountain show, which occurs Saturdays from mid-June through mid-September. Spend a magical evening strolling the illuminated gardens of Versailles!

5. Costa Blanca, Spain

You can’t go wrong with picking Costa Blanca for June in Europe.

Location: Costa Blanca is a 200 km coast in the southeast of Spain.

Getting There: the best airport to get to Costa Blanca is Alicante Airport (ALC).

Where To Stay: If you stay in Alicante, Occidental Alicante has comfortable and modern rooms and a fantastic location since it is in the heart of the city, a few minutes from Alicante Central Market.

If you are looking for an early summer destination, Costa Blanca, located in the southeast of Spain, is an excellent choice.

With an average high of 24°C (75.2°F) and an average low of 21°C (69.8°F), you are guaranteed warm weather which allows you to do plenty of summer activities. Plus, Costa Blanca in June isn’t as busy as in July and August.

What makes Costa Blanca unique is its coast. Here you can find beautiful golden sand beaches with crystal clear water and impressive cliffs and rock formations.

Although Benidorm is one of the most popular towns in the area, you can also find other incredible towns like Altea, Calpe and Villajoyosa. All these towns have unique things and amazing beaches, except Altea, which has a pebbled beach.

In addition to this, if you love themed parks and zoos, there are many of these in the area, especially near Benidorm.

Another option is to stay in Alicante city and go on day trips to these coastal towns since they are very well-connected by public transport. 

Alicante has a combination of beach and culture. You can visit Santa Barbara Castle and Alicante Art galleries or soak up the sun on the beach. As you can see, it is a great place to spend June in Europe.

6. Cordoba, Spain

Cordoba is such an amazing place to spend June in Europe.

Getting There: Cordoba is well connected by high-speed train to Madrid (1hr 45min) as well as other Andalusian cities: Seville (35 min) and Granada (1hr 35min). 

Where To Stay: one of the most magical hotels in Cordoba is Palacio del Bailio. It occupies a renaissance palace that was built on the foundations of a Roman Villa. The hotel’s restaurant has a glass floor which lets you see the carefully preserved Roman courtyard underneath. 

June is a lovely time to visit Cordoba. The crowds that fill the city during the May festivals are gone, and the temperatures haven’t climbed to their mid-summer intensity yet. The weather is perfect for exploring the city on foot, and Cordoba is entirely walkable. 

As a city shaped by three powerful empires: Romans, Arabs, and Spanish Catholics, Cordoba preserves the traces of each period. Walk over the 2,000-year-old Roman bridge, and you find yourself in front of one of the most unique monuments in the world – the famous Mezquita of Cordoba. It is one of the things that Spain is famous for.

This enormous structure was built and continuously expanded by the Arabs between 785 and 988 AD. And when the Catholic monarchs re-conquered the city back from the Arabs, they built a soaring gothic cathedral right into the center of it. 

As you leave the Mosque-Cathedral, you find yourself in the old Jewish neighborhood – a maze of short winding streets lined by whitewashed houses and interspersed with adorable little squares. 

Many of the houses have gorgeous inner courtyards filled to the brim with potted plants and water features. To visit a few of the courtyards, head to the San Basilio neighborhood and join the self-guided patios tour. 

Cordoba summer nights are perfect for lingering in outdoor bars and restaurants. It is after all one of the best places to enjoy Andalucian tapas. And if you visit in mid-June, you can catch the Noche Blanca del Flamenco – a festival that transforms Cordoba into the world’s flamenco capital for one night. It’s an epic place to spend June in Europe.

7. Amsterdam, Netherlands

Amsterdam ranks very high on everyone’s top locations to spend June in Europe.

Getting There: Amsterdam Schiphol Airport is a large international hub airport in the Netherlands. Flights into Schiphol are available from any major city in Europe and abroad. Trains to the center city of Amsterdam run directly from the airport, making getting into the main part of the city a breeze! 

Where To Stay: People are often confused when it comes to accommodation in Amsterdam. Stay at Eden Hotel Amsterdam for close access to most attractions and easy walking distance to restaurants, bars, and grocery stores in Rembrandtplein!

Amsterdam, the capital of the Netherlands, is an incredible place to visit during the month of June. Comfortable temperatures and blooming tulips make the perfect backdrop to afternoons and long evenings spent along the water. All you have to do is take the short journey from Amsterdam to Keukenhof and you’ll be in the most famous tulip garden in the world!

June is the best time to take a canal boat cruise on the famous UNESCO World Heritage Central Canal Ring. 

Oh and if you snap up some really cool photos, make sure to pair them with epic Amsterdam canal quotes. It sure fire way to draw loads of attention to your Instagram!

In addition, the city sees many festivals and concerts during the month of June. This makes it a fun place to spend June in Europe. Don’t forget to enjoy a show at Melkweg, a popular nightlife venue, or participate in festivities at the National Holland Festival, which spans almost the entire month.

8. Ticino, Switzerland

Ticino is such a beautiful place to spend June in Europe.

Location: Ticino, Switzerland

High: 20°C/ 68°F (in the valleys and towards the end June) 

Getting There: Fly into Milan (Italy) or Zurich (Switzerland) and take the train to Lugano or Bellinzona 

Where To Stay: To best explore the entire Ticino canton, you should look at accommodations in the larger cities such as Bellinzona or Lugano. 

In beautiful Ticino, in the south of Switzerland, summer has already arrived in June. Among the most important sights and landmarks of Ticino are the three castles of Bellinzona, the capital of Ticino, which dominate the cityscape.   

Further south, the beautiful city of Lugano with its historic center and offers “dolce vita” along its beautiful shores of Lake Lugano. During a boat trip you can explore countless old fishing villages that cling picturesquely to the hills here such as Morcote or Grandia.  

The snow-free Alpine peaks in the background invite you to go hiking. One of the most panoramic hikes leads from the top of Monte Tamaro to Monte Lema, overlooking the entire canton. Since many mountains are accessible by gondola, you can also go up to the peaks just to enjoy the view. From Lugano city center, Monte Brè and Monte San Salvatore are fantastic viewpoints. 

Not so hidden gems anymore are the narrow valleys of Verzaska and Maggia, located north of the fantastic little towns Ascona and Locarno. Here you will find historic, small mountain villages in a still quite wild landscape. Just absolutely beautiful to look at! You can see why it is one of the best spots to spend June in Europe.

9. Venice, Italy 

June in Europe? Consider Venice!

Getting There: You can either get a flight into Marco Polo Airport and then a bus into Venice itself or arrive by train into the Santa Lucia Train Station.

Where To Stay: Venice’s city center is divided into 6 districts. By far the best one is the San Marco neighborhood which contains many of Venice’s most famous attractions including St Mark’s Square and Basilica. Many hotels in this area overlook the Grand Canal including The St. Regis Venice.

Venice is known for its beautiful canals and Gothic-style architecture. This area has an impressive 1700-year history that can be explored by foot, gondola or water taxi. It makes one of the best spots to spend June in Europe.

It’s a city like no other with narrow, winding streets and stunning bridges which cross over the many canals.

Venice actually has over 150 canals and 400 bridges. The canals themselves serve as the main transport route though the city meaning you’ll see lots of boats and gondolas on them.

The Grand Canal is by far the most famous and largest of Venice’s canals and it runs through the heart of the city. 

Many of the city’s most famous landmarks, such as the Rialto Bridge and St Mark’s Basilica, are located along the Grand Canal.

You can head out onto the Grand Canal itself on a gondola ride or you could enjoy some delicious Italian food at one of the many restaurants located beside the canal.

Must-try snacks in Venice include cicchetti (which is basically Italian tapas), fegato alla veneziana (calves liver) and, of course, gelato.

You can also spend some time island hopping around the nearby islands including Murano, which is known for glassmaking, and Burano, which is famous for its colorful houses.

These islands are super aesthetic making them ideal for taking photos. Make sure you have your best Venice Instagram captions on hand!

10. Rome, Italy

Rome is an epic place to spend June in Europe.

The Trastevere area has plenty of restaurants on its cobblestone streets that will make you feel like a local. You can see why this is such an amazing place to spend June in Europe.

Stuttgart is an awesome place to spend June in Europe.

Getting There: Fly into Stuttgart-Echterdingen Airport (STR) from almost anywhere in Europe. If coming from overseas, fly into Frankfurt International Airport (FRA) and grab a connecting flight, hop on the train, or drive to Stuttgart from there.

Where To Stay: Book a room or suite at the Mövenpick Hotel Stuttgart Airport for the ultimate in convenience and comfort. The  Mövenpick offers gorgeous suites with stand-alone tubs and air-conditioning, as well as an incredible onsite restaurant with an outdoor terrace and bar.

As the 6th largest city in Germany, there are a ton of things to do in Stuttgart in June. But one of the most popular attractions, and what this incredible city is known for, is its car museums.

Both the Porsche and Mercedes Museums are located in Stuttgart, and you don’t even have to be a car enthusiast to enjoy them. The architecture, history, and creative and interactive displays make the museums perfect for any type of visitor.

Stuttgart is also known for its green spaces. Get out in the nice June weather and enjoy the many parks like the Schlossgarten and Killesberg Park. Or head to the popular Wilhelma Zoo, which has a wonderful botanical garden. It is a great place for June in Europe.

Another iconic landmark that you can’t miss is the Fernsehturm. The first of its kind in the world, the tower has an outdoor observation deck where you will have wonderful views of Stuttgart’s rolling hills. On a clear day, you can see as far as the Black Forest.

And if you love to shop, head to Königstraße in downtown Stuttgart. There you will find a wonderful pedestrian-only shopping area filled with boutiques, popular chain stores, and incredible restaurants, bars, and cafés.

12. Porto, Portugal

Porto is the perfect spot to spend June in Europe.

Location: Porto, Portugal

Temperatures in Porto, Portugal in June:

Low:  14°C / 58°F

Getting There: The main airport near Porto is Francisco Sá Carneiro Airport (OPO), also known as Porto Airport. There are plenty of low-cost carriers that serve this airport from other parts of Europe. Outside of Europe, you’ll likely need to make a stop in another major city. You can also take a high-speed train directly to Porto from Lisbon.

Where To Stay: Porto is a small, walkable city located on the Douro River. Across the river is the sister city of Vila Nova de Gaia (or Gaia for short). Many of the hotels and historical attractions are located on the Porto side of the river, making it a great place to stay.

Just be aware that the roads leading away from the river are steep. So, you’ll have less of a walk if you stay close to the river.

Portugal is one of the most affordable places to visit in Western Europe. And June is one of the best times to enjoy the beautiful city of Porto. There are fewer tourists than in July and August, and the weather is just right.

With its unique architecture, history, great food, and delicious wine, there’s plenty to see, taste, and sip. Clérigos Church is one of the most famous sites. This Baroque church has a 75-meter-tall bell tower where you can get a great view of the city. And just down the street, you can visit Livraria Lello, a famous bookshop with an iconic red staircase.

For the best views of the city, take a walk across the top deck of the Dom Luís I Bridge. This metal-arched bridge crosses the Douro River, connecting Porto to Gaia. At the other end, you can take a cable car down to the Gaia pier, where you’ll find the Port wine cellars.

Visit Espaco Porto Cruz, a multimedia center where you can learn about Port wine, enjoy a tasting with cheese and chocolate, and take in the views from their rooftop terrace. And for excellent Port and to see a 300-year-old cellar, stop by Taylor Fladgate for a tour and tasting.

If you’re a wine enthusiast, a Douro Valley wine tour is a must. This is an easy day trip you can do from Porto. You’ll get to see how Port is made, taste incredible wine, and experience the beauty of this UNESCO World Heritage site. It is one of the top places to spend June in Europe.

13. Sintra, Portugal

Sintra is a fairytale kind of location to spend June in Europe.

Getting there: Fly into Lisbon International Airport and take a bus, train, or Uber to Sintra. It is a 25 minute drive from the airport.  Alternatively, fly into Porto and take a 4 hour bus ride to Sintra.  

Where to stay: Consider staying at Sintra Bliss Hotel if you are on a budget, or Penha Longa Resort for a highly rated 5-star experience.  

Sintra, Portugal is Lisbon’s charming, neighboring city.  Think picturesque castles and medieval architecture built high atop mountains. This enchanting city get-away leaves visitors feeling like they stepped into a fairytale. 

With mild temperatures, June in Europe is an ideal time to visit.  Get an early start to the day to beat the crowds!  

Most visitors come for Pena Palace, Sintra’s signature yellow castle. Purchase tickets in advance to avoid long lines. Equally as beautiful is the immaculate Quinta de Regaleira. Visitors spend hours exploring the castle architecture surrounded by blooming gardens. Other popular spots include Castelo de Mouros and Sintra National Palace. The national palace is conveniently located in the city center.  

Visitors with more time can take a half day trip to Cabo Da Roca.  

It is recommended to purchase an $11 day ticket to take a bus anywhere in Sintra. Buses arrive frequently and are a convenient option, more affordable than alternatives.

And for those looking to explore the city at a slower pace, you can stroll along the Green horseshoe. This is a route made up of several squares, parks, and gardens located throughout the city in the shape of a horseshoe!

Getting There: Fly to Sofia International Airport (SOF) and get the subway to the city center

Where To Stay: Get a hotel or apartment close to the pedestrian area in the center so you can have the best places in Sofia at walking distance. Hotel Niky is a great option for a hotel in the center, but if you are looking for a budget-friendly alternative, check out Hostel Mostel instead.

Sofia is a city with something for everyone, from history and culture to outdoor adventure and nightlife. It is a very young and lively capital, especially during springtime when there are a lot of outdoor festivals and day trip possibilities.

The first thing you will notice once you land is that Sofia is a city with a very rich cultural and historical background. Right in the center of Sofia, as you get out of the central subway station called Serdika, you will be immersed in the ruins of the ancient Roman city that stood in that very same place.

The open-air archaeological sites are surrounded by the modern buildings of Sofia, showing the new and the old can exist side by side.

After you take some time to explore Sofia’s historical sites, make your way to the biggest attraction in town, the beautiful Alexander Nevsky Cathedral, one of the largest Orthodox churches in the Balkans.

If you want a place to have an afternoon drink, go to the rooftop bar at the Sense Hotel. They have a decent cocktail menu and the best view of the Alexander Nevsky Cathedral.

Another great reason to June in Europe in Sofia is that the weather is perfect for enjoying the many options for outdoor activities. The closest place to go is the Vitosha Mountains, which rise to over 2,000 meters, offering excellent hiking and mountain biking opportunities.

If you are willing to go a bit further, we strongly recommend a day trip to the Rila Lakes, one of the most beautiful hikes in Bulgaria. June in Europe can’t get better than this.
