March is a brilliant time to visit Asia. Some parts of the continent however have a rather stronger draw than others. The beauty about visiting the continent is that the terrain is so large and diverse that there is always a good place to visit in every month of the year. I digress… Let’s get back to the point.
Deciding where to go can be tough and if Asia is on your list and you are heading there in March then you may want to take a look at this enormous list that we have put together with the help of a number of travel bloggers.

1. Bhutan
Bhutan seldom makes it on to most people’s bucket lists and yet I was so glad that it was added to our list of places to visit in March in Asia. The gorgeous green country is one of those places that has been calling out to me for eons and someday I hope to set foot within its boundaries.
Paro
Paro in Bhutan is a gorgeous spot to visit in March in Asia.
LOCATION: Paro
GETTING THERE: Only Druk Air and Bhutan Airlines operate flights to and from Bhutan. Direct flights are available from India, Thailand, Singapore, Bangladesh and Nepal. Travelers coming from other countries must first travel to any of the above-mentioned countries and take a flight to Paro International Airport.
WHERE TO STAY: I love Rema Resort which is located beside the Paro Chu river, a calm and quiet place. Rooms are good with all the basic amenities and the staff are very friendly, but I would not recommend lunch or dinner here. There are several good restaurants in Paro city.
Paro is a mesmerizing destination in Bhutan enriched with its magical landscapes, stunning mountains and cultural heritage and March is the ideal time to visit this beautiful place. You will need to stay at least 3 nights here to visit all the major attractions like the National Museum of Bhutan, Paro Dzong and obviously the famous Tiger’s Nest Monastery Trek.
Upon arrival at Paro visit the century-old National Museum of Bhutan which is ideal to know the culture and history of Bhutan. Later visit the Paro Dzong which is basically a district administrative building built with stone in 1646. The most important Bhutanese festival Paro Tsechu is conducted in this Dzong which is also famous as Rinpung Dzong.
Keep your one day fully reserved for Tiger’s Nest Monastery Trek. This is not an easy trek but the entire trek is really spectacular which will automatically boost your energy. This Taktsang Monastery trek generally takes 3-4 hours to reach to the top depending upon the capability. Enjoy the beauty of this journey and take some picture-postcard photos of the monastery nestled in the lap of steep mountain.

2. Cambodia
Cambodia is an amazing place to spend March in Asia. The culture, the gorgeous monuments, the people and everything is cheap!
Kampot
While we have not spent March in Cambodia, I can assure you the country is well worth visiting. One of the things that I loved about it was the skies at sunset. I have never seen such gorgeous sunsets in my life. The people are approachable, it is peaceful and there is much to do. Definitely worth adding it to our list of places to visit in March in Asia and other bloggers thought so to!
Kampot is a fun place to explore in March in Asia
LOCATION: Kampot
GETTING THERE: Bus (4 hours) or minivan (3 hours) from Phnom Penh.
WHERE TO STAY: Hotel Old Cinema, a petite boutique hotel housed inside a heritage cinema house made famous during Cambodia’s French colonial period.
Located in southern Cambodia between Phnom Penh and the coast, Kampot is a charming town set on the Praek Tuek Chhu river. The best things to do in Kampot involve being outdoors – which is why it’s imperative you pick the right time of year to visit.
March in Cambodia is the tail end of the dry season. High season wraps up in January, so by March, it’s a lot quieter. Temperatures start climbing into the high 70s ahead of April, traditionally the hottest month of the year. But you can always find some respite from the heat down on the river, where Kampot’s mild breezes take the sting off the sun.
Exquisite heritage buildings, vestiges of Kampot’s days as a colonial capital, line the main streets around the Old Market hall. Further north, bungalow resorts open out onto the river. Kayaking or stand up paddleboarding through the Green Cathedral, a looped section of still water shaded by dense forest, is a wonderful afternoon activity.
A sunset cruise along the river is another highlight. In the early morning, grab a bicycle and head east of the city to discover the area’s rice fields, salt pans, and visit farms that cultivate world-famous Kampot peppercorns.
In Kampot town, visit the modest Provincial Museum, pop into a few of the local art galleries, and check out the shops around the Old Market. Kampot’s cafes and restaurants are some of the best in the country. Try a few of the Khmer restaurants and street food dishes served up at the Kampot Night Market, but save room for restaurants run by Italian, Portuguese, Japanese and Israeli expats as well.

3. China
A lot of travel bloggers thought that China deserved a spot on our list of places to visit in March in Asia. At first I was a bit sceptic because I thought it would be too cold. Turns out I was wrong. Their descriptions sure bumped the country up on my list. You may want to check it out too!
Beijing
Spending March in Asia? Beijing may be just the spot for you?
LOCATION: Beijing is the capital of China and is located in the north west of the country
GETTING THERE: Being a major city of 25 million people Beijing has international and domestic airports, one of the busiest in the world. I highly recommend travelling by fast train within China, it’s punctual efficient and clean.
WHERE TO STAY: There are 5 areas most recommended for tourists to stay in Beijing where you stay will depend on what you want to see. Beijing is a massive city, so you are best advised to stay in the area closest to the things you want to see. Transport in Beijing is complicated, and communication is definitely a challenge. Save yourself the hassle and choose your accommodation wisely.
Most popular area to stay in Beijing is Wangfujing due to its proximity to the main attractions such as the Forbidden City and Tiananmen Square. The Regent Beijing is one of the most ideally located hotels. Qianmen is popular as its the historical centre of Old Beijing, a renowned foodie area you’ll find plenty of the national iconic dish, Peking Duck. It is also home to the Muslim district.
Houhai and Nanluoguxiang where old meets new, home of Beijing largest lake and close to the Hutongs, Bell and Drum Towers and Lama Temple. Chaoyang is best for the business traveller, close to the Beijing CBD, international companies and foreign Embassies. Very close to the Beijing 2008 Summer Olympics Village.
798 District is home to Beijing’s finest art galleries, exhibitions and fantastic street art. Full of quirky cafes and boutique shops and popular with the local younger generation. March is the recommended best time to visit Beijing, the weather is heading well into spring and the cold snowy days have gone for the season.
China has a cherry blossom season that rivals Japan however very few people travel to China for the spring blooms, making it the perfect place to see a lovely spring display without the crowds experienced in Japan.

Liang
Lijang is an amazing place to spend March in Asia.
LOCATION: Lijang
GETTING THERE: Lijiang is a beautiful city located in China’s Yunnan province. It’s a 2.5-hour flight from Hong Kong. It’s the home of the Naxi people and several other ethnic minority groups. The city’s surrounding landscapes are among some of the most beautiful in China.
WHERE TO STAY: If you’re looking to spend some time in this traditional city we recommend you stay at Lijiang Gui Yuan Tian Ju Guesthouse. It’s an adorable inn located right in the heart of Old Town Lijiang.
One thing that makes Lijiang the perfect place to visit during the month of March is the amazing weather! Springtime in Lijiang is extremely pleasant. The skies are blue and the afternoon temperature is perfect. Although the nights can be a bit chilly, during the day you’ll only need a light jacket.
One of the main attractions in Lijiang is the Old Town. Lijiang Old Town is over 1,000 years old and is a popular tourist destination for tourists to experience traditional China. There are hundreds of shops with a lot of traditional Chinese goods and foods to choose from. We spent two full days enjoying the cool breeze and shopping for traditional souvenirs to bring back home.
Tiger Leaping Gorge and Jade Dragon Snow Mountain are two other main attractions located just outside of Lijiang. The snow-capped mountains, exhilarating hike, and breath-taking views are just a few reasons you will love these UNESCO world heritage sites and never forget your trip to Lijiang!

Shanghai
Shanghai is a fun place to spend March in Asia
LOCATION: Shanghai, China
GETTING THERE: Several airlines fly directly to Shanghai as it is a major hub for travel to other destinations and the world’s largest city.
WHERE TO STAY: Shanghai’s accommodations vary from budget to luxurious. Stay at the Ritz-Carlton Shanghai, Pudong which has some of the best views in town. The Banyan Tree Shanghai offers tranquillity on the popular Bund. There are options in the Pudong district which was reasonably priced, but located quite a distance from the downtown area and far from the metro.
March is the perfect month to visit Shanghai. While it can still be chilly, especially at the beginning of the month, the crowds of tourists are much lower, so you can actually enjoy the city itself. This sprawling metropolis combines the best of the old world with the new in a fascinating way. While steadfastly holding on to old traditions and some architecture, Shanghai has embraced the modern world with a modern skyline.
There is so much to see and do in Shanghai! Enjoy the observation deck at the world’s third tallest building – the Shanghai Tower. Ride the world’s fastest electric train – the Maglev. Stroll along the Bund, the famous waterfront promenade with colonial era buildings.
In the evenings, don’t miss a Huangpu cruise where you’ll see the famous Bund and beautiful skyline all lit up. Or spend a day at Disneyland. Or shop to your heart’s content in one of the modern malls catering to luxury brands or the more eclectic shopping roads. In other words, there is something for everyone in Shanghai and you’ll be awestruck by its sheer energy.
Because of its sprawling size, the best way to get around the city is by metro and walking. While you can use the ride-share app DiDi, though be warned that traffic is often at a standstill in such a populous city. So pack your winter coat and enjoy all Shanghai has to offer in March!

4. India
India is one country in which you can’t generalize the season across the length and breadth of it. The terrain is so diverse and there are so many factors to consider when choosing a spot for your vacation. Luckily it also means that there are gorgeous places that you can visit in March. Take a look at the ones that made it to our list of places to visit in March in Asia.
Varkala
Varkala is another amazing place to spend March in Asia.
LOCATION: Varkala, Kerala
GETTING THERE: There are trains from Thiruvananthapuram and Kollam or you can take the bus from Kochi and Trivandrum. I do recommend train travel in India over the bus, as bus rides can be quite the suicide mission.
WHERE TO STAY: Jickys Nest is close to Varkala beach and Varkala Cliff. You can attend yoga at the hotel and it’s walking distance to restaurants and shops.
Varkala is a beach town in southern Kerala that is slowly starting to get noticed by backpackers from around the globe. The town has a chilled atmosphere, and as March is low season, there are not too many people around. This may result in lower prices if you are a good bargainer, though it may also result in desperate shop owners asking for higher prices as sales are infrequent, so be aware.
Varkala Cliff, with all its restaurants, fresh smoothie bars, and tourist shops, is towering above the golden sanded Varkala beach. There are plenty of steps to get down to the beach and if you plan to sunbathe, go to the right side which is for tourists. If you want to experience a relaxed India, Varkala is without a doubt the place to be. With Ayurveda, yoga fresh fruit juice, beach, and sun this is a slower and more relaxed Goa.

5. Indonesia
Indonesia certainly is popular among travellers but sadly the largest trove of travellers head to Bali. You can’t blame them. It is beautiful and has better infrastructure than the rest of the country. If you really wish to disconnect and you want to experience the quieter parts of Indonesia head off the beaten path. Trust me you will enjoy it!
Belitung
Belitung is a location that you should consider spending March in Asia.
LOCATION: Belitung
GETTING THERE: There are very few flights to Belitung, with the most flights coming from Jakarta (no direct flights from Bali). You can also fly from Singapore a few times a week (the only international arrivals).
WHERE TO STAY: If you want a local experience Belitung Homestay Backpacker is the place to be where Yulie and her family welcome you into their home and cook delicious food. Closer to the famous lighthouse is Rock and Wreck Resort, with each room coming to the property from around the island and then being restored.
Belitung is relatively unknown internationally but is a popular domestic destination for people living in Jakarta. When you arrive in March, you’re arriving at the end of the rainy season, so the tourism is even quieter still, but you don’t need to deal with searing heat with any rain lasting a short time in the afternoon (usually).
The island has minimal tourist infrastructure but with a large distance between the major tourist sites (unless you want to be a beach bum in the Tanjung Kelayang) you still have a few options:
- Hire a private driver
- Rent a scooter (~$8/day)
- Join a group tour for day trips
The most popular attraction is the Lengkuas Island lighthouse you see in the photo and the only way you can see this is by taking a boat tour. You can organise this when you arrive by walking along Tanjung Kelayang where a guide will approach you (you will be approached) offering a boat ride. You’ll normally need to haggle for the price of the entire boat, so the more people you have the cheaper per person. Preferably do this the day before you want to go.
You can negotiate as low as 350,000 IDR (~$25) but expect $30-35 to be a normal price. The tour involves a visit to a few of the different islands, all of which you’ll be able to land on and explore in March. Other must visits In Belitung are Kaolin Lake (go for sunset), Tanjung Tinggi, and Batu Baginde.

6. Japan
When someone brings up travel to Japan, I immediately think of the cherry blossom festival which the country is so famous for. The good news for you is that if you are considering traveling in March in Asia and you have put Japan on your list, you will be just in time to see the trees in bloom.
Osaka
Osaka is a great city to spend March in Asia.
LOCATION: Osaka
GETTING THERE: Osaka is well connected to the rest of the world with its Kansai International Airport (KIX), merely 45 minutes away from the city center. It is also conveniently connected to other major cities in Japan by JR (Japan Railway) and Shinkansen.
WHERE TO STAY: For budget travelers, consider Toyoko Inn, a popular Japan hotel chain that offers great deals and a nice breakfast. For a better option, the Cross Hotel Osaka or Hotel Nikko is located right at the heart Shinsaibashi, the shopping center of Osaka.
Of all-time in the year, the best time to visit Osaka is probably in the springtime in March and April. Comfortable weather, cool temperatures, and most important of all – it’s the cherry blossoming season in the city.
The cherry blossom in Japan occurs through February in Okinawa to May in Hokkaido; and the breath-taking scenery is at its best in late March in the Kansai region, usually during the Easter holidays. While Osaka is close to the historic cities like Kyoto and Nara, the city itself is filled with cherry blossom viewing spots. Check out the sakura forecast website as it shows photos of the status of the cherry blossoming.
My favorite place is the Osaka Castle. It’s easy to get to, and the site also features one of the most impressive plum groves. Reach to the top of the castle and enjoy an awesome panoramic view of Osaka. Purchase a Kansai 2 or 3-day Thru Pass and visit to enjoy the unlimited train, subway and bus ride in Osaka and Kyoto while enjoy inggreat benefits at over 350 tourist facilities. Don’t forget to explore the city’s many incredible districts like Tennoji, Shinsekai, Dotonbori, Umeda, and to try all the amazing food that Osaka has to offer.

Tokyo
Tokyo is another place you should consider visiting in March in Asia.
LOCATION: Tokyo
GETTING THERE: Being the capital city of Japan, Tokyo is easily accessible. You can fly into two airports – Narita (located about 60km from Tokyo) and the more centrally located Haneda.
WHERE TO STAY: If your budget allows consider a stay at the luxury Park Hyatt hotel. For a unique cultural experience consider staying at a ryokan (traditional Japanese inn) where you sleep on a mattress on the floor.
There are many reasons to visit Tokyo – including the culture (a mix of modern and traditional), the food, the people, the fashion and its unique and interesting attractions. Must sees in Tokyo include walking across Shibuya Crossing (the world’s busiest and most famous intersection), having a meal at one of its many quirky themed cafes and amazing restaurants, visiting beautiful temples, shrines, parks and gardens, seeing a kabuki performance, watching a sumo wrestling tournament or practice and visiting a fish market for fresh sushi.
March is a great month to visit Tokyo thanks to the pleasant weather and the possibility of seeing the beautiful and celebrated cherry blossoms. The timing of the cherry blossoms is not exact and varies each year but usually the trees in Tokyo start to bloom sometime in mid to late March and reach full bloom a week or two later.
You can join the locals and indulge in some cherry blossom viewing (hanami) which can mean anything from a relaxing picnic in the park to drinking under the trees. Although a great time to visit Tokyo, it is also one of the busiest times of the year for tourists so book your trip early.

7. Kazakhstan
Not many people travel to Kazakhstan and yet I am given to believe that the country is nothing short of gorgeous. It has been on our bucketlist for so long and yet we haven’t been able to head there because of a variety of reasons. I hope some day soon we will get to see the country in all of its glory.
Almaty
Almaty is another location you should consider visiting in March in Asia.
LOCATION: Almaty
GETTING THERE: Almaty has direct flights to and from many places throughout Europe and Asia but no direct flights from the USA, so you would first need to reach Frankfurt, Istanbul or Beijing and transfer if coming from the States. Almaty is easily reachable by bus or train from China, Russia and the rest of Central Asia.
WHERE TO STAY: For budget travellers, Sky Hostel is a great option with a fantastic rooftop balcony overlooking the city and nearby mountains. Hotel Astana is a good mid-range option and if you are looking for a touch of comfort and class, the Kazzhol Hotel can’t be beaten (with a great breakfast buffet).
March is a great time to spend in Almaty as spring emerges and the streets start to lose their layer of winter ice. As the city is in the far south of Kazakhstan, it does not get as cold as the rest of the country. The nearby ski resort at Shymbulak (the only one in Central Asia) and the highest ice-skating rink in the world at Medeu make an excellent day trip from the city (take bus 16 across from Hotel Kazakhstan to the final stop).
Another great day trip is Big Almaty Lake which lies close to the border with Kyrgyzstan. It’s best to hire a driver or agree for a taxi to wait as public transport is limited, but the views across the frozen lake and mountains are worth the trip!
Spring truly makes Almaty shine as the strong sunlight dazzles of the domed roofs of the city’s orthodox churches and mosques. Almaty is all about the mountains, but if you don’t fancy skiing or hiking, the city has plenty to offer, from its cosmopolitan café culture to its fine museums and parks.
Take a walk along Zhibek Zholy where local artists and traders sell their wares or take a cable car up to Kok Tobe, the highest point in the city for great views and the best shashlik in town!

8. Laos
When I think about Laos, I think about green forests and gorgeous waterfalls. While we have had a chance to visit its neighbouring countries, we haven’t had a chance to cross into Laos yet. A lot of bloggers have talked about it and recommend visiting it. In fact, Laos made it to our list of places to visit in March in Asia.
Vientiane
Have you considered visiting Vientiane in March in Asia?
LOCATION: Vientiane
GETTING THERE: Located in central Laos, Vientiane Capital is serviced by regular domestic and international connections to Thailand, Vietnam, Cambodia, China, Korea and Singapore. You can also reach Vientiane by domestic and international bus services.
WHERE TO STAY: Vientiane offers a huge range of accommodation options from budget hostels to luxury and boutique hotels. I enjoyed the Salana Boutique Hotel for its central location and views over beautiful Wat Ong Teu.
March is an ideal time to visit Vientiane, the chilled-out capital of Laos. While the temperatures are starting to heat up, it is low season for travellers to Laos which means that you will avoid the crowds while sightseeing. Since the monsoon rains have well and truly finished, you can also explore the capital and its surrounds without fear of torrential downpours.
Vientiane is one of the lesser-visited capitals in Southeast Asia, but it is one that should definitely be added to your list when visiting Laos. Exceptionally compact and easily walkable, Vientiane is perfect for exploring over one to two days.
Spend your time exploring the small streets of the town centre before popping into one of the many colourful and historic Buddhist temples. Check out historic Wat Sisaket with over six thousand Buddha images lining its cloistered walls or the graceful columned Wat Phra Kaew.
Visit some of the city’s iconic landmarks such as the French-inspired Patuxay Victory Monument for its stunning views, or the huge golden stupa of Pha That Luang. Take a Lao weaving or natural dyeing class at the Houey Hong Centre or head just out of town to the popular, yet bizarre, Buddha Park. Sample the national dish of laap before joining the throngs on the riverside promenade to watch a magnificent orange sunset over the Mekong River.
By Marie from A Life Without Borders
Nakai
Nakai is a lesser visited but equally gorgeous location to spend March in Asia.
LOCATION: Nakai, Khammouane Province, Laos (Central Laos)
GETTING THERE: There are multiple ways to get to Nakai, but the most common is by motorbike since Nakai sits on a popular Thakhek loop. Thakhek is just about 90 km south from Nakai and there is a daily bus line connecting these two places. Also, you can catch a daily bus from the northern town of Laxsao.
WHERE TO STAY: There are several resorts where you can stay in the town. I’ve been in Nakai twice and both times I’ve stayed with a local family in Open Nakai School. If you’re looking to learn about Lao lifestyle and experience how locals live, that’s the place to go.
Nakai is a small town located about 90 km north of Thakhek. Not many people heard about this tiny town, but it has become more popular in the recent years since it lies in the popular Thakhek loop. The town isn’t only known as a stop on the loop, but it’s widely recognized by controversy – Nam Theun 2 Hydro plant.
Once you arrive in Nakai, you will be greeted with a massive lake that is filled with a crazy amount of dead trees. That trees were once a biodiverse forest crucial for the ecosystem in central Laos, but right now it serves as an accumulation lake for a dam.
Anyway, there are many things to do in Nakai. You can take organized tours with locals and explore local communities around the lake, hike to very beautiful mountains that will reward you with breath-taking views over the lake and limestone mountains, and much more. During my time in Nakai, I’ve explored many places and really loved to relax and swim in the Song Sou waterfall.
If you’re a lover of spicy food, then you’ll fall in love with local delicacies. Lao people love their food extremely spicy and when I say extremely, I really mean it. I recommend trying their specialty – a spicy papaya salad. Also, the most interesting thing about living in Nakai is that some communities don’t use money, but rather exchange goods. For example, 5 kg of rice is worth a kilogram of chicken.

9. Malaysia
Malaysia has a lot to offer. From the bustling city of Kuala Lumpur to the forest on Malaysian Borneo, there is much to see and do. Like many countries in South East Asia, it also has its own islands which draw tourists to its shores every year. It wasn’t a surprise that this gorgeous country made it to our list of places to visit in March in Asia.
Mulu National Park
Mulu is an offbeat spot to spend March in Asia.
LOCATION: Mulu National Park
GETTING THERE: Mulu National Park is a protected rainforest located in Miri division of Sarawak, Malaysia. Miri is easily accessible by plane from Kuala Lumpur. From Miri, Maswings provides daily flights from to Mulu. The journey is about 30 minutes, and it’s highly recommended that you take the morning flight.
WHERE TO STAY: Mulu Marriott Resort & Spa. For budget travelers, go for Rainforest Lodge.
In my humble opinion, Mulu National Park is one of the most underrated holiday destinations in Malaysia. According to Sarawak tourism board, this UNESCO World Heritage Site is almost 60 million years old. The park consists of three mountains (Gunung Mulu, Gunung Api and Gunung Benarat), huge river systems, tropical forest, and huge caves.
One of the most popular activities in Mulu park is caving. It has the largest cave passage in the world (known as Deer Cave), the largest naturally enclosed space (Sarawak Chamber) and one of the longest caves in the world (Clearwater Cave). For starter, you will want to explore the Lagang Cave. It requires walking and a little bit of climbing to get to the deep dark underground world. Here you will come across insects, bats, and centipedes along the ancient river beds.
The daily bat exodus at the entrance of Deer Cave and Lagang Cave is another highlight. On most evenings between 1730 to 1830, millions of bats leave the caves in long line. They just keep emerging for 30 to 45 minutes. Be sure you arrive early to the observatory station to secure a good spot for bats watching.
As well, the pinnacles climbing is highly recommended. The pinnacles of Mulu Park are the formation of 45-meter high, sharp limestone rocks. The trail is 2.4km one way, and it takes about 5 hours to reach the viewpoint, where you get to marvel at the beauty of the pinnacles. Here a fun fact: Pinnacles is featured on 100 Ringgit Malaysian banknotes (see picture).

Penang
Looking for gorgeous street art? You may want to consider Penang as a place to spend March in Asia.
LOCATION: George Town, Penang
GETTING THERE: Penang is accessible by train, plane or bus. From Kuala Lumpur, catch a train to Butterworth station. It is then a short hop across the bridge by bus. Penang’s airport is 18km south of George Town, Penang’s main city. Alternatively, George Town is served by long-distance buses.
WHERE TO STAY: There is no shortage of characterful heritage hotels in George Town. The finest of the bunch is the Eastern & Oriental Hotel, an all-suite hotel housed in a historic building. If your budget won’t stretch to this, consider Coffee Atelier, another heritage property in the heart of George Town.
Located off peninsular Malaysia’s north-western coast, the tropical island-state of Penang is a microcosm of the exotic East. Its main city is the UNESCO World Heritage site of George Town. March is a great month to visit Penang as it is out of peak season but still dry enough to be able to explore.
George Town is quintessential Asia and offers intoxicating cultural diversity amidst its unparalleled architecture. Crumbling Chinese shopfronts rub shoulders with British colonial buildings, mosques and Hindu temples.
Clan houses, known locally as kongsi, grace George Town’s streets and jetties. Contemporary George Town is all about street art. Take a self-guided walking tour of the city’s vibrant street art scene to hunt down work by the renowned Lithuanian artist, Zacharevic.
George Town is hawker stall heaven. Malaysians take their food VERY seriously, and the stalls in Penang serve up amongst the best street food that you will eat in Asia. The sheer variety and quality of food attracts visitors from home and abroad. Mee goring mamak anyone?

10. Macau
The culture in Macau is a great option when it comes to spending March in Asia.
LOCATION: Macau
GETTING THERE: You can fly directly to Macau from a few Asian cities, including Singapore and Bangkok, catch the ferry from Hong Kong or take a bus, taxi or private transfer by road across the new Hong Kong Macau bridge.
WHERE TO STAY: Macau has no shortage of accommodation, from budget hotels to five-star luxury on the Cotai Strip. The Parisian is a fun and fabulous hotel with its version of the Eiffel Tower.
If you’re thinking about taking a vacation in Asia in March, it’s worth considering Macau. Macau is a Special Administrative Region (SAR) of China and is packed with attractions. During the 16th century, Macau was a gateway to China.
In recent years, the former Portuguese colony has earned a reputation as the Las Vegas of Asia and is the top place in Asia to have a flutter. Macau’s casinos are impressive and offer plenty of attractions beyond the roulette tables, such as fun amusement park rides, amazing restaurants, impressive swimming pools and fantastic shopping.
If you love history, there are plenty of wonderful things to do in Macau to keep you busy for a few days. March is the end of the cooler season in Macau when being outdoors is comfortable. Explore the Ruins of St Paul’s and the city’s historic squares, churches, temples and other UNESCO World Heritage attractions.
The two best festivals to attend in March are Feast of the God Tou Tei and the Procession of the Passion of Our Lord, which is a unique religious celebration and procession through the streets of Macau.

11. Philippines
Philippines is a gorgeous country that is compromised of numerous islands. It is these islands that draw people to the country from all over the world. English is spoken almost everywhere making it easy to communicate and easy to get to places which is another reason why it so popular.
Bohol
Bohol has many adventures to explore if you choose to spend March in Asia.
LOCATION: Bohol
GETTING THERE: It’s easy to get to Bohol from Cebu by boat with frequent departures daily. Cebu has connections with several destinations in Asia, which makes it convenient to get here from various destinations by flight. The ferry from Cebu takes about 2 hours and you can choose between SuperCat and Ocean Jet.It’s also possible to travel to Bohol from Siquijor and Dumaguete by a 2-hour ferry.
WHERE TO STAY: I recommend staying at Henann Resort Alona Beach, which is located on Panglao. It’s a small island that is connected to Bohol via a bridge. From here, you can also go on day trips to deserted islands and go snorkelling.
Bohol is an island in the Philippines which is located east of Cebu. It’s famous for its beaches and nature. Chocolate Hills is one of the most famous spots on the island. Additionally, visitors can see the Philippine Tarsier, which is an endemic species and one of the cutest animals. Visiting Bohol in March is also a great idea with daily temperatures rarely falling below 84°F or exceeding 94°F. This is right after the rainy season, which means that the rice fields will be vivid green, and the whole island will look lush and fresh.

Boracay
Ever considered spending time in Boracay? It is he perfect place to spend March in Asia.
LOCATION: Malay, Aklan
GETTING THERE: From Caticlan Airport ride a tricycle going to Caticlan Port, then ride a boat going to Cagban Jetty Port.
WHERE TO STAY: Mad Monkey
Boracay Island was closed to tourists on April 2018 for its rehabilitation and was re-opened on October 2018. And last October 2019, it reclaimed the award as the Best Island in Asia.
Boracay is one of the most visited islands in Asia due to its white powdery sand and turquoise clear water. It is best to visit during summer particularly in the month of March. But before you can enter the island, keep in mind that you need to present a confirmed hotel reservation. Aside from large volume of tourists, also expect on-going road constructions.
The main attractions here are the Puka Beach and White Beach. Between these two, Puka Beach is less crowded. The most popular budget activity here is island hopping and snorkelling. And if you have more budget, you must try parasailing. At night, socialize at a party with your newfound friends at beachside bars between Station 1 and 2.
There are lots of accommodations available, but you should only book with the accredited one. If you are a backpacker, I recommend Mad Monkey Hostel. It is 5 minutes’ walk from Bulabog Beach and 10 minutes’ walk from White Beach. They have a swimming pool and air-conditioned rooms. And lastly, it is a party hostel so there is a great chance that you will meet new friends from different countries.

12. Singapore
Singapore is a gorgeous city to spend March in Asia.
LOCATION: Singapore
GETTING THERE: The easiest way to get to Singapore is by plane. Singapore is South East Asia’s largest aviation hub, offering direct flights to many destinations across the world.
WHERE TO STAY: Hotel Indigo Katong and Naumi are both great hotels with infinity pools overlooking the city.
March marks the official end of the monsoon season in Singapore, and therefore one of the best times to visit with less rainy days and more hours of sunshine. With so many great places to explore you’ll want to be out and about enjoying that weather!
Singapore has two iconic pieces of architecture, both deserving of a visit during your time in the city: the beautiful Gardens by the Bay, and the towering Marina Bay Sands Hotel. Wander through the ginormous super trees or take shelter within the cloud forest or flower dome escaping from the midday heat as you explore over a million plants housed within the Gardens by the Bay.
Synonymous with the Singaporean skyline, head for a drink at LeVeL 33 for amazing views of Marina Bay Sands, or splurge on a night’s stay at this world renowned hotel treating yourself to a dip in the insanely instagrammable rooftop infinity pool. Both Gardens by the Bay and MBS also host evening light shows to music that are well worth a viewing.
Away from the modern side of Singapore, take a tour with Tribe to discover the ‘real’ Singapore and discover local food and customs, including an unforgettable visit to a bustling hawker food centre for some delicious, and incredibly cheap, street food. Meander through the historic districts stopping at the picture-perfect pastel shop houses in Katong and brightly painted walls in Bali Lane to enjoy the unique blend of cultures present in Singapore.

13. South Korea
Another country that we have been thinking of visiting is South Korea. I have to admit that I was rather surprised that it made it to our list of countries to visit in March in Asia because I thought it would be too cold. Then again, we all travel for different reasons and to see different seasons, right?
Busan
Busan is definitely a perfect place to spend March in Asia.
LOCATION: Busan
GETTING THERE: Busan is served by Gimhae International Airport, the KTX high-speed train from Seoul, rail and road connections to other South Korean cities, and even ferries from Jeju and Fukuoka.
WHERE TO STAY: I stayed at the Hotel Kyungsung. It was clean, comfortable and close to shops in the Seomyeon district and the eponymous Busan Metro interchange. The blowfish restaurant downstairs is also a popular spot.
Busan is on the south-eastern tip of the Korean peninsula, so it is among the first places in the country to experience spring. With the warmer weather come flowers galore: plum, magnolia, canola, peach and, of course, the famous cherry blossoms. While the dates vary every year, late March is usually the time when the beotkkot are at their fullest.
Locals and tourists alike will flock to the nearby town of Jinhae for the festival, but you don’t have to join the crowds as I did. The blooms are everywhere in the city. At Daejeo Ecological Park, canola flowers turn the fields bright yellow while pink blossoms line the roads and the riverbank.
For a little more tranquillity, cherry trees in full bloom also line the hiking route from the Mandeok metro station to Seokbulsa. The temple alone is worth visiting, but the temperature makes it more comfortable, and the added beauty makes the views even more breath-taking.
Besides flowers, there is plenty to see in Busan. Although the water was too cold for a dip in March, I enjoyed fresh sashimi bibimbap on Gwangalli beach and visited the seaside shrine of Haedong Yonggusa. The hillside village of Gamcheon, with its blue rooftops, is also popular with Instagrammers. There is an official trail that connects all the public art there; if you buy a map and collect the stamps, you can receive a souvenir at the end of the two-hour walk.

Seoul
Seoul is a great place to put on your list of destinations to visit in March in Asia.
LOCATION: Seoul
GETTING THERE: From Incheon Airport to Seoul it takes around 1 hour. You can get there by bus, subway, train or taxi.
WHERE TO STAY: Central Myeongdong Loisir Hotel
Seoul is a metropolitan city and also the capital of South Korea. The best time to visit Seoul is during the cherry blossom season or when the leaves are turning golden in autumn. The cherry blossoms start in mid to end of March until the first week or mid April. Each year it differs a bit.
The best spots to visit during the cherry blossom season are the palaces, the many parks, Cheonggyecheon Stream and one of the many cherry blossom festivals. During this time of the year it can still be quite chilly but nice enough to spend the whole day outdoors.
Apart from seeing the cherry blossoms in Seoul you can also head out of the capital on a short day trip. Some of the best places to go is to the Anseong Farmland where the flowers will be in full bloom, enjoy paragliding just outside Seoul or visit Nami Island and Garden of Morning calm.
These places are just 1 hour away from Seoul and are a nice addition to you Seoul itinerary. Try to stay at least 4 days in Seoul before heading to different parts of South Korea. Other places that are beautiful during springtime are Gyeongju, Busan and Jeju Island.

14. Sri Lanka
Somehow Sri Lanka was never on my top countries to visit list. Then one day we found ourselves some cheap tickets and a couple of days leave and we set out to backpack across the country. It changed the way I saw the place and believe me when I say that I fell in love with it. In fact, if you are considering choosing Sri Lanka as the place you want to spend March in Asia, I would highly recommend it.
Colombo
Colombo is an intriguing place to spend March in Asia.
LOCATION: Colombo
GETTING THERE: Colombo is the capital city of Sri Lanka and it is well connected to all the major cities of Asia, Europe, and Australia. The easiest way to get to Colombo from outside Sri Lanka is to fly. Most flights fly directly to Bandaranaike International Airport, but some may make a stop at Indian cities. Bandaranaike International Airport is the main international airport for the capital of Sri Lanka.
It is noteworthy that the Sri Lankan Airlines has the largest foreign airline network connecting Colombo with over 100 international destinations. The airport is approximately 30 km away from the city, so it usually take an hour and a half to get to the city centre by bus or tuk-tuk.
Sri Lanka has an extensive train network. The trains are cheap although sometimes packed. You may want to get to the station as early as possible to pick up 2nd class tickets and ensure you have a seat. The major rail hub in Colombo is the Fort Railway Station and has services to and from popular cities like Kandy, Galle, Hikkaduwa, etc.
Colombo is also connected to other cities by many highways. Traveling by bus or tuk-tuk can turn out to be fun as you get to experience the countryside and other landscapes of the tropical island. There are a number of taxi and bus services you can use to get around.
Getting around the Colombo area is easy due to well-established bus transport network. Uber and PickMe apps are available in Colombo and can be lifesavers.
WHERE TO STAY: From luxury hotels to budget-friendly hostels, Colombo has got it all covered. The city is relatively small, so you can find some of the best hotels around Colombo Fort, and Dehiwala-Mount Lavinia. Colombo 1 or Fort Area is the central part of the city, making it a very convenient place to stay. A lovely area features various accommodation options, as well as some of the best spots to eat and drink in the capital.
Just a few kilometres south from the Colombo Fort, there is Mount Lavinia neighbourhood with plenty of dining options. The neighbourhood is home to some of the scenic beaches the city has to offer. Otherwise known as the “Golden Mile”, the bustling area features a wide variety of bars and pubs and a long stretch of coppery sand with views of the headland. There are several hotels by the beach but my favourite so far is Anarva Mount Lavinia.
Colombo is one of Asia’s largest cities. As a first-timer wanting to make the most out of a visit, this can be a little frustrating, so bear in mind that the real charm in visiting Sri Lanka is elsewhere. Spend a couple of days in Colombo before moving to rural areas and small towns. March is a predominantly dry month, with temperatures hovering around the mid-30s °C.

Spend at least three days in Hualien to really get a feel for the city and nearby attractions before traveling further down the east coast. Visit during March to enjoy glorious spring weather and pleasant temperatures. But keep in mind that Taiwan has a subtropical climate, so expect some rain on more humid days.

Taipei
Taipei is a bustling city that makes a great place to spend March in Asia.
LOCATION: Taipei
GETTING THERE: Taipei has a major international airport. Air China flies direct from all over the world. Budget airlines fly direct to Taipei from Kuala Lumpur, Bangkok, and Hong Kong.
WHERE TO STAY: Like most major cities there is no shortage of accommodation. For a budget option try the dorm rooms at hostel Formosa 101 right near the Tonghua Night Market. For more comfort try the ARK Hotel in Zhongzhen District just a short walk from Daan Forest Park.

It has a monsoon season from May through to September, however, visit in March and you will not only escape the rain but enjoy cooler temperatures. The typical day time temperature in March is a comfortable 20 degrees Celsius, dropping to about 10 degrees at night. Pack warm clothes.
Taipei is a melting pot of cultures, feeling like a mix between Hong Kong’s street life and influenced by Japanese culture. Yet neither one, nor the other, just uniquely Taipei. It is a must-visit destination on any Taiwan travel itinerary.
There are countless things to do in Taipei which can easily keep you busy for up to a week. Get an awesome view of the city from Taipei 101, the tallest building in the city, relax in the nearby Beitou hot springs or take in the fresh air while hiking the surrounding mountains.
Elephant Mountain and Yangmingshan are both amazing hikes. When the sun falls, Taipei’s night markets come to life. Here you will discover a huge local food scene that is uniquely Taiwanese, don’t miss the bubble tea. Shilin and Raohe are some of the most notable night markets which are not to be missed.

16. Thailand
Thailand is popular among travellers as a country with sun, sand, parties and great food. You would be surprised to learn that the country has a lot to offer to people in all age groups and that parties aren’t the only reason why people head to the country. It has gorgeous sites for snorkelling and scuba diving, places to trek and some really pretty temples. Definitely a place that we love having on our list of places to spend March in Asia.

WHERE TO STAY: Baan Baimai Boutique Hotel is in a central location, with luxurious, modern rooms and bike hire just outside. It is a perfect base for your Ayutthaya adventure.
Ayutthaya is a great option for visiting in March, as it falls at the end of the busy tourist season in Thailand, but it is before the rains start. Most people visit Ayutthaya on a day trip from Bangkok, With trains leaving every hour it is an easy escape from the busyness of Thailand’s capital city.
Once the capital of ancient Siam and among the most important cities in the world, Ayutthaya fell into ruin after attacks in 1767 and is now a UNESCO heritage site. As it is located within old city walls, the temples can all be seen in a single day if you book bikes or a tub-tuk tour.

It is in Ayutthaya that you can see the famous Buddha head trapped in the roots of a tree (at Wat Maha That Temple. Koh Phangan
Koh Phangan is fun beach location to spend March in Asia.
LOCATION: Koh Phangan
GETTING THERE: Fly to either Surat Thani on Thai mainland or to Koh Samui, the neighbouring island. Then take a ferry.
WHERE TO STAY: Phangan Cove, a wonderful mid-range option on the island, right on the beach in Sri Thanu.
Koh Phangan in March is one of the best times of year to visit. The temperatures are moderate, and the rainy season has long gone. Before the more extreme heat hits in April and May, you can enjoy a comfortable climate in the month of March. Tourist numbers are lower than in January and February too.
There is a lot to do in Koh Phangan. Many come here for the Full Moon parties, but the island is so multi-faceted you’re unlikely to run out of things to see. The amazing white sand beaches, the lush forest complete with waterfalls (although those mostly dry up in March) and plenty of hiking trails.
Spiritual heart of the island in Sri Thanu attracts yoga and mindfulness practitioners. Plenty of quality cafés with views to kill for provide an ideal background for chilling or working. Thai food served from the smallest shacks to exquisite luxury locations will make your taste buds go wild.
And if you get tired of it, there are plenty of other cuisines to choose from. Koh Phangan just has it all. It may be slightly more difficult to get to, since it doesn’t have its own airport, but that helps tame the tourist crowds.

Koh Tao
Koh Tao is a great place to spend March in Asia.
LOCATION: Koh Tao is an island located in the Gulf of Thailand in South East Asia.
GETTING THERE: Transport to Koh Tao from the mainland in Thailand is by boat either from Chumphon, which is the closest departure point, or from Suratthani. Bus and ferry combination tickets are available from Bangkok daily. You can also hop on a ferry to Koh Tao from Koh Samui or Koh Phangan.
WHERE TO STAY: Most popular areas to stay is in Sairee Beach or Mae Haad
Koh Tao in the Gulf of Thailand is famous for some of the best diving in Thailand and is one of the most popular places in the world to do your open water dive course. There are an abundance of dive sites close to the island and boats from nearby islands drive all the way to Koh Tao to dive. It is a beautiful island with a relaxed lifestyle, I loved renting a scooter and driving around the island visiting the unreal beaches, truly paradise!
March is a great time to visit Koh Tao, it is in the dry season that stretches from February to May. This time of the year it is nice, hot and sunny with little rainfall. Air temperature can reach as high as 36 degrees Celsius with high humidity and water temperature can reach 30 degrees.
The Gulf of Thailand can be dived all year, March is great for diving since the sea is flat and calm and this is whale shark season in Koh Tao! You have a chance of spotting one of these amazing giants diving in Koh Tao in the months of March and April.

Krabi
Thinking of spending March in Asia? Krabi may just be the perfect spot.
LOCATION: Krabi
GETTING THERE: Krabi is on the west coast of southern Thailand. You can get there by plane easily from Bangkok. The airport is around minutes from the city center.
WHERE TO STAY: City Hotel Krabi
Krabi Thailand is a wonderful place to sit back relax and enjoy the sunshine and food! It is known for its beaches where you can spend the day lazing listening to the waves roll in but for people like us it was totally alive once the sun went down. We spent our nights walking the markets is search of the perfect mango smoothie and food that still makes our mouth water at the thought. Small portions meant there was lots of sampling.
If we weren’t at the beach, we were wandering temples, sunning ourselves by the pool, riding in a ear-piercing long boat to another epic location, eating ice-cream and searching the day markets for some of the best bargains and souvenirs to take home with us.

Koh Phi Phi
Phi Phi is a fun stop to make when spending March in Asia.
LOCATION: Phi Phi Islands
GETTING THERE: Before going to Koh Phi Phi you will need to get to Krabi or Phuket as the majority of ferries depart from there. Unless you are already staying there, you will most likely fly to Krabi Airport or Phuket Airport. Then you will need to get transportation (minivan is the most affordable option) from the airport to the pier and only after that – a ferry.
The ferries run daily and in high season there are even more boats. Alternatively, you can opt for a speedboat which is pricier than a ferry but also faster.
WHERE TO STAY: If you want to be comfortable, go for PP Charlie Beach Resort. The rooms are nice and clean, there is an outdoor pool that overlooks the sea and a buffet breakfast. If you are there for a party, opt for one of the hostels.
March is considered to be a high season for Koh Phi Phi, the weather is hot and sunny, with low chances of rainfall, the water is warm as well. The Phi Phi archipelago consists of two main islands and four tiny ones.
The biggest island is Phi Phi Don and that’s where you will arrive by ferry. There you can find any kind of accommodation, entertainment, and shops. The majority of visitors come to Phi Phi Don for its magnificent beaches.
Active tourists can explore the island on foot and hike up to the observation point. Yet, the best experience that Phi Phi Don has to offer is diving and there are plenty of diving companies on the island to choose from.

17. United Arab Emirates
The United Arab Emirates or U.A.E. as we more commonly know it, is a location that has become popular with travellers across the world. Not only does it house some of the busiest airports in the world, its cities also draw people to the country to see the wonders that man can build in the middle of a dessert. The cooler temperatures of the season make it a great place to spend March in Asia.
Abu Dhabi
Abu Dhabi is an intriguing place to spend March in Asia.
LOCATION: Abu Dhabi
GETTING THERE: Abu Dhabi International Airport offers direct flights from most places. Getting a taxi from the airport to your hotel is quite easy as taxis are usually parked right at the entrance. Alternatively, you can use Careem app to book your ride
WHERE TO STAY: Jumeirah at Etihad Towers
Apart from the fact that the Etihad Towers is a known landmark in Abu Dhabi, the location of the hotel is aptly situated very close to Emirates Palace. Another luxury hotel in Abu Dhabi that serves as a great spot for tourists to take pictures in the vicinity.
While being close to the center of the city, you can explore the food and culture of the capital of the United Arab Emirates. The two main attractions in Abu Dhabi are the Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque and Louvre Abu Dhabi.
The Grand Mosque is a beautiful religious structure with fantastic architecture that will make you marvel. For those having visited the Louvre in Paris and art lovers will especially love the latter tourist destination in Abu Dhabi.

Dubai
Dubai is a great place to spend March in Asia since the weather is perfect!
LOCATION: Dubai
GETTING THERE: Dubai is a major travel hub having its own airline, Emirates. It’s the fifth busiest airport in the world and is pretty easy to get to from just about anywhere. Many countries can enter visa-free or have a 90-day multiple entry visa. Many more can apply for a visa online.
WHERE TO STAY: If you’d like to splash some cash you can stay at the Armani Hotel in the Burj Khalifa, the Burj Al Arab or Al Baleed by Anantara. Luxury hotels abound in Dubai and one of the most affordable is Atlantis The Palm.
Dubai is one of the main arteries that connects East to West and as such many travellers will spend some time in the airport. Yet most will pass by the Emirate and travel onto their next destination, and that would be a shame as Dubai has a lot to offer.
Dubai is a land of superlatives from visiting the tallest building in the world at Burj Khalifa; seeing the largest performing fountain in the world; shopping at Dubai Mall, the world’s biggest; or traversing the largest man-made island at Palm Jumeirah which is visible from space.
You can also stay at the world’s only 7-star hotel which is the sail-shaped Burj Al Arab. There is also delicious Emirati food as well as loads of restaurants serving cuisine from around the world. You can ski indoors, go quad biking in the desert, take a hot air balloon or even go kitesurfing at the beach.
March is probably the best month to visit as its just after the epic Dubai Shopping Festival which ends in February and sees hordes of tourists. It’s also at the end of winter, so the weather is a bit cooler while not being extreme. Hotels and airlines also hike the prices in peak season between January and February, so you can save a bit by visiting in March.

18. Uzbekistan
Uzbekistan isn’t a country that comes up often. We are all about travelling off the beaten path so when Ellis suggest adding it to our list of places to visit in March in Asia, we jumped at the idea. Quite frankly, she just inspired us to visit the country too!
Samarkand
Samarkand is a great place to spend March in Asia.
LOCATION: Samarkand
GETTING THERE: From Uzbekistan’s capital Tashkent it is a 2 hour journey by train
WHERE TO STAY: Timur the great hostel
Samarkand in Uzbekistan equals cities like Rome and Athens if it comes to its historical importance and beautiful old buildings. It is one of the oldest cities in Central Asia and it played a major role on the ancient Silk Road.
Samarkand is still characterized by its beautiful madrassahs and mosques built during the Timurid empire. The blue and gold tilework decorations are impressive and will leave any visitor in awe. Luckily, since 2019 most people can now enter Uzbekistan visa free.
Visiting Samarkand is now easier than ever, and spring is one of the best times to visit Uzbekistan. Samarkand might still be a bit cold in March, but spring is in the air and so are the celebrations of Nowruz, Central Asia’s biggest festival.
Nowruz is a 3000-year-old festival celebrating spring and the creation of new life. It is celebrated annually on the 21st of March. Although this day sees the biggest festivities, they actually span several days, and the preparations already start in the beginning of march.
It is a joyful time to be in Samarkand where you can see concerts, folk dancing and fairs with traditional sports. Along with great weather and the other big tourist attractions it is one of the best places to visit in Asia in March.

19. Vietnam
Vietnam was the country that we fell in love with from the first day itself. The culture, food and people are just some of the things that makes the country so welcoming. It is a place that I would head back to again in a heartbeat. I’m so glad that it got added to our list of places to visit in March in Asia.
Halong Bay
If you are thinking of spending March in Asia then consider visiting Halong Bay.
LOCATION: Halong Bay
GETTING THERE: It is best to visit Halong Bay directly from Hanoi. Either you can travel by road, which is the cheaper option or by air. There is a daily flight from Hanoi to Halong Bay.
WHERE TO STAY: Overnight cruise tours are prevalent in Halong Bay. Two or three nights Halong Bay cruise are also enjoyable. A one day trip is also possible. I enjoyed a two days Halong Bay budget cruise tour with Cozy Bay Cruise. There are hotels to stay nearby the Tuan Chau Harbour area. For cruise tours in a boat/ship, pre-booking is the best.
The UNESCO World Heritage Site Halong Bay is one of the most popular travel destinations in Vietnam. To avoid the massive traffic of the tourists, March is always the right time to visit. The weather is merely perfect, neither extremely hot nor cold, and therefore, you’ll love to explore the beauty of Halong Bay during this month of the year.
During my solo trip to Vietnam, cruising in Halong Bay was fun and one of the memorable travel experiences. It was a group tour in a wooden junk boat. Two days involved many fun and adventurous activities like kayaking, hiking, sunset party, cooking class, fishing, swimming, and more. The beauty of Halong Bay is due to many limestone rocks with emerald water. Undoubtedly, a must-visit!

Hoi An
Hoi An is fun place to spend March in Asia.
LOCATION: Hoi An
GETTING THERE: The best way to reach Hoi An is to fly into Da Nang International Airport then take a taxi or private transfer the short distance to Hoi An.
WHERE TO STAY: For a luxury accommodation experience with all-inclusive packages available, Sunrise Hoi An Beach Resort is a great option.
As a whole, we loved visiting Vietnam and enjoyed each of the cities we visited, however, Hoi An was extra special. The historic town is located a short distance from Da Nang and brings the best of both worlds – luxury resorts with sandy beaches and local history and culture.
Visiting in March means near-perfect weather for enjoying sunshine and water activities. Most of the resorts have expansive swimming pool areas and private beaches. Many also offer the use of non-motorised water activities, such as kayaks or snorkelling equipment too.
Hoi An is known for affordable and quality tailored clothing, so don’t miss the chance to visit the markets and get something custom made. It is also a beautiful town to stroll through, with historic architecture, such as the famous Hoi An bridge.
Hoi An is also famous for decorative lanterns, which hang everywhere around town and are lit after dark. They make a beautiful gift to take home, plus the town holds regular lantern festivals throughout the year. While you are in Hoi An, don’t miss the chance to join a Vietnamese cooking class to immerse yourself in the local culture.

Sapa
If you are a hiker the Sapa is a great place to spend March in Asia.
LOCATION: Sapa
GETTING THERE: Sapa is located in a remote region, so getting there is a little more difficult, but so worth it. The most popular way to get there is by train. If you’re coming from Hanoi, it takes around eight hours, and then you will need to take a shuttle bus to reach Sapa. We recommend booking your train tickets in advance, as they can fill up quickly. You can also choose to get there by bus, with a shorter journey time of six hours from Hanoi.
WHERE TO STAY: Sapa is one of the unique places in the world, so accommodations are as well. Since most people travel to Sapa to trek. We strongly recommend getting the full cultural experience by taking part in a multiple-day trekking trip. Through this experience, you will stay with locals in the tiny villages of Sapa, getting a genuine, authentic look at the culture.
If you plan on doing a multiple-day trek and staying with locals in the villages it’s best to plan a splurge holiday right after the trip. That way you can relax and recover with a good night’s rest in a luxury hotel that can easily be found for under $100 a night.
Make sure to get a glimpse into local life in the Cat Cat Village. It’s a unique way to see how these ethnic minorities have lived for centuries along the Vietnam-China border.

There are some seriously epic places to spend March in Asia here! I would love to sit by the pool and just enjoy another cold drink by the pool before we have to go home. But the question is how do you pick one place? I am saving this for some ideas for when we are travelling home through Asia and need a cool spot to relax.
