New York city is one of the most iconic spots to spend March in the USA.
Location: New York City
Getting There: New York is served by three major airports: John F. Kennedy International Airport (JFK), LaGuardia Airport (LGA), and Newark International Airport (EWR), making it super easy to catch a flight into the Big Apple.
Where to Stay: When choosing where to stay in NYC, the most important thing is to pick a hotel that’s a short walk from the subway. The Courtyard by Marriott Manhattan Midtown/West is a comfortable, affordable hotel just a short walk from both Penn Station and Hudson Yards.
If you’re looking for an exciting destination in the USA to visit in March, look no further than New York City. A weekend trip to New York City is the perfect way to get an introduction to the Big Apple.
If you’re visiting New York City for the first time, there are a few touristy attractions that you can’t miss. A first trip to NYC isn’t complete without a stop at Times Square, the Statue of Liberty, the 9/11 Memorial, and Central Park.
For amazing skyline views, head to the skydeck at Edge, one of the city’s best observation decks. Plus, you can’t visit the city without grabbing a slice of NY-style pizza. Joe’s on Carmine Street is a favorite among locals and tourists.
Since March weather in NYC can be a bit unpredictable, make sure to include a few indoor activities in your itinerary. NYC is home to some of the world’s best museums, like the Metropolitan Museum of Art and the Museum of Modern Art, which is a great way to spend a cold or rainy day. In the evening, you can’t go wrong with checking out a Broadway musical or a comedy show.

2. Everglades National Park, Florida
Everglades National Park is a gorgeous place to spend March in the USA.
Location: Everglades National Park in southern Florida
Getting there: The closest international airport is in Miami, about an hour drive to the Everglades entrance
Where to stay: Miami, Florida has the most options for hotels near the Everglades
The Everglades is the third largest national park in the continental United States, covering 1.5 million acres of tropical wetlands. Sometimes referred to as the “River of Grass” because of the fields of tall grass that go on for miles, the park also contains hardwood tree hammocks, cypress wetlands, pine forests, and mangrove-lined rivers. There are many boardwalk and bicycle trails for adventuring, as well as guided boat tours, kayak, fishing boat, and canoe rentals to explore all the unique waterways the park has to offer.
Sitting at the southern tip of Florida just south of Miami and Naples, the Everglades has a subtropical climate. March is the perfect time to visit this park because springtime in Florida is perfect! It is not yet hurricane season, the spring breezes help keep the mosquitoes away, the temperatures are not too hot, and it is before the rainy season of summer.
Since the park contains several distinct ecosystems made of both fresh and salt water, there are many different varieties of wildlife to be seen. The Everglades protects several threatened or endangered species including American crocodiles and alligators, West Indian manatee, leatherback turtles, and the Florida panther. The best places to spot wildlife are at the Shark Valley and the Flamingo visitor centers. Stop by the Flamingo Marina to see manatee and alligators, and stay for an epic sunset overlooking the Florida Bay!

3. Sedona, Arizona
One of the top places to spend March in the USA is Sedona in Arizona.
Location: Sedona, Arizona
Getting there: The closest major international airport is Phoenix Sky Harbor Airport, which is about two hours south of Sedona.
Where to stay: Arabella Hotel Sedona, which is an excellent mid-range option with a variety of impressive amenities, like a pool, hot tub, and those iconic red rock views.
Sedona is known for its stunning red rock mesas, canyons, and other formations, towering over this tiny town, and its endless forests of soaring ponderosa pines.
Most visits to Sedona are all about exploring the great outdoors and the weather could not be more perfect for that- daytime highs are in the low 70s with clear and sunny skies. Its one of the perfect spots to spend March in the USA.
All that beautiful weather provides the perfect setting for trying any of the incredible hikes in Sedona, from Devil’s Bridge, where you can walk across a dramatic sandstone archway overlooking the pine tree forest below, to Cathedral Rock, which provides incredible views of the surrounding red rock mesas. If you happen to be visiting during a particularly warm day, Slide Rock State Park offers an excellent spot to splash around and cool off, even providing a natural water slide to slip and slide your way down.
Beyond enjoying the gorgeous landscape, Sedona is believed by some to have “energy vortexes” and thus, has cultivated quite a quirky personality. Between the outdoor gear stores and art galleries, you’ll also find an impressive number of crystal shops, reiki healers, and aura readers. Consider going on a guided tour here that combines Sedona’s jaw dropping scenery with its New-Agey vibes, like a hiking and yoga tour, where you’ll actually hike to one of the purported energy vortexes to spend some much needed time on your mat.
Whether you want to participate in a drum circle or simply gape at Sedona’s natural beauty, there’s plenty of adventures waiting for you in this town.

4. Grand Canyon National Park, Arizona
The Grand Canyon National Park is another gorgeous location to spend March in the USA.

And for the best photos possible, be sure to check out top Grand Canyon viewpoints like Yavapai Point, Navajo Point, and Desert Watchtower.
However, if you’re feeling a bit adventurous and have some time on your hand, try visiting the North Rim. It’s much less visited than the South Rim and you can enjoy stunning Views from Cape Royal while you’re here.

5. San Francisco, California
San Francisco is a fun city to spend March in the USA.
Location: San Francisco, California
Getting There: You have two choices when it comes to flying to San Francisco. The obvious one is San Francisco International Airport (SFO) which is about a 20 minute drive into downtown without traffic. The other option, Oakland International Airport (OAK), lies just across the bay and you can take BART to Union Square.
Where to Stay: San Francisco is a very walkable city, so you’ll want to stay in a central neighborhood like Union Square or Nob Hill with easy access to the sights. Two great hotels to consider are the InterContinental Mark Hopkins (Nob Hill) and the Clift Royal Sonesta Hotel (Union Square).
In March, the weather in San Fransisco can be a little cool. But then the next day warm. Bring layers to manage the fluctuations. It will be worth it to avoid the summer crowds.
San Francisco has a long list of tourist sights to see like the iconic Golden Gate Bridge, Fisherman’s Wharf, China Town, the Painted Ladies, the Ferry Building, Pier 39, Coit Tower, Alcatraz, and many more. The best way to see it all is to walk and ride the cable cars, another San Francisco top attraction!
When planning your San Francisco itinerary, in addition to booking your tours, you’ll want to make some restaurant reservations ahead of time. The City By the Bay happens to be one of the best foodie destinations in the U.S. and many of the most sought after tables get snatched up 30-60 days out. From famous burritos in the Mission District to San Francisco originals like Cioppino and Crab Louie, you’ll want to experience it all.

6. Los Angeles, California
Another popular city to spend March in the USA is Los Angeles.
Location: Southern California

The second largest city in the United States, Los Angeles is one of the most popular places to visit in California.

LA is home to some of the best museums in the United States, over 70 miles of coastline with many gorgeous beaches and a wonderful art scene.

7. San Diego, California
A popular city to spend March in the USA is San Diego.

Where to stay: Paradise Point Resort & Spa, it’s a reasonably priced resort on its own private island with lots of amenities, 5 luxury pools, and an on-site restaurant.
Visiting San Diego in March is a great time to visit for a few reasons. Firstly, you will have a high chance to score low prices on flight tickets because it’s during the low season and it’s a little too cool for spring breakers to choose to visit the beaches in March.
Secondly, flowers are beginning to bloom which means you can visit the seasonal Carlsbad flower fields which are only a 30-minute drive from San Deigo!
Next, it’s nearing the end of whale watching season in San Diego so even though the whales will not be very likely to be seen from shore you can still book a boat tour that will take you out far enough to have the chance at spotting some!
Finally, the temperatures will only be in the high 60s so you can enjoy hiking the many different nearby trails without worrying about being uncomfortably hot and there are many different water sports to try like surfing, paddleboarding, or kayaking where you won’t need for the water to be warm to enjoy it.

10. Arches National Park, Utah
Arches National park is the perfect place to spend March in the USA.
Location: Arches National Park, Moab, Utah
Getting there: The best way to get to Arches National Park is to get to Moab and stay there during your trip. To get to Moab, you can either fly into Salt Lake City’s airport or Denver’s airport, and then make the drive from there. Because Moab is in the desert, it’s a fairly remote area.
Where to Stay: There are many incredible places to stay in Moab, but consider staying at the Element Moab. This hotel is just a short drive away from the Arches entrance, which makes it easy to get there before the crowds in the morning.
Even with just one day in Arches National Park, there are so many incredible things to do in this park, which is known for its arch-shaped rock formations. There’s a scenic drive, visitor center, places to have a picnic, and of course, many different hikes, ranging from easy to difficult.
One thing that travelers absolutely can’t miss out on during a trip to Arches is hiking up to Delicate Arch. This is a moderate hike that has little to no shade, so be sure to do it earlier in the morning when it’s cooler.
The hike leads to the arch that’s most famous for being on the Utah license place, and it’s also on the most welcome to Utah signs when entering the park. Hikers who aren’t a fan of heights should, unfortunately, skip out on this hike because of the drop-offs, but there is a short hike to Delicate Arch Viewpoint which is a lot easier to get to.
Note that as of summer 2022, Arches National Park has officially started a timed entry permit system. These permits can be difficult to get, and anyone who wants to visit should try to get one at least a month or two in advance, especially in July or August. The other option is to get to the park before the timed entry permits begin each day.
