We found ourselves in Miri for the weekend. After a long walk through Niah National Park on the previous day, we wanted to just chill and enjoy the day. That meant good food. Luckily for us, I managed to find this little gem in the middle of the city.
Sau Pau café in Miri may not seem like much from the outside but it is definitely a spot that you want to put on your list for breakfast or snacks or just for an evening cup of tea.
In fact, I know people who stay in Kuala Belait that stop here every time they make a trip across to Malaysia. I mean with food this good, who wouldn’t?

Specialities In Sau Pau Café
Our breakfast in Miri at Sau Pau Cafe
While Sau Pau is a café don’t expect finery. It is a simple place with chairs and tables, a fan to keep the air circulating and the overwhelming smell of baked goods. Sau Pau café is famous for their stuffed steamed buns and their delicacy known as Sau Pau which is a pork stuffed bun with a flaky pastry on the outside. It is something that you really need to try if you have no objection with pork.
Other than the famous Sau Pau buns, there are a number of other baked goodies that keep coming out from the oven. From sweet to savoury to low sugar treats, the café has you covered. They even have the local Teh and Kopi to go along with the tasty treats.
We just drew up our chairs and watched as the people working in Sau Pau Café expertly made each item and placed them into the ovens. Hot baked goodies kept coming out in trays and they kept getting over as fast as they were made.
Besides buns, both steamed and otherwise, you will find that the café has a number of different varieties of cakes that are certainly worth trying. We tried the marble cake and while it was different, we were not disappointed. The molten cheese tart however blew my mind. It was beyond amazing.
We even got a parcel of goodies to bring back with us to Brunei. That is just how much we loved the snacks. That being said, we definitely will be heading back to the café if we ever are in Miri again.
