September in Europe is a really interesting time to be in the continent. The heat of summer is in the past and the chill of winter has not yet arrived. This makes it a great month to spend time in the outdoors. The fact that Europe has a lot of beautiful outdoor spaces to enjoy makes this season all the more alluring.

Paris is one of the top favorites when it comes to places to spend September in Europe!

One of the most famous travel quotes of the twentieth century is “Paris is always a good idea.”
Audrey Hepburn uttered this saying about Paris in the 1954 movie Sabrina. And while it’s true that Paris is always a good idea, it’s an even better idea in September!
That’s because Paris in September has better weather and fewer crowds than in July and August. And if you’re lucky, the weather might be breezy enough to bust out a trench coat and attempt to pass for a local.
Since September signals the beginning of autumn, you’ll see fewer children traveling with families. Instead, the city opens up to couples and solo travelers who aren’t hampered by the school calendar.
This means it’s easier to snag last-minute deals, spots on typically-sold-out tours, and a better patch of grass to experience the sparkling Eiffel Tower at night.

Barcelona is known for being a crowded tourist destination, but September is a great time to visit because it is the beginning of the shoulder season: the peak has passed and there are fewer crowds around. It won’t feel like a ghost town, though: it will still be buzzy and there may still be queues; but it won’t be as intense as during summer.

There are many great things to do in Heidelberg. A natural starting point is the famous Heidelberg Castle. You can’t miss this castle just above the Old Town. It started life as a fortress in 1300 and today is partly in ruins.
You can walk up or take a cogwheel train. To go inside, you need to take a guided tour. You can also visit a Pharmacy Museum here and an enormous wine cask.
The Old Town in Heidelberg is also worth wandering around. There are museums and churches and Heidelberg University, the oldest university in Germany. You can visit the University Museum or their old Student Jail. The Palatinate Museum is the place to head for the history of the area.
Once you have explored the Old Town, head over the Old Bridge over the Neckar River and walk up to Heiligenberg (Holy Mountain), the hill opposite Heidelberg Castle.
This is the area where settlement began in Heidelberg and you can hike around ruins from the Celts, Romans, Middle Ages and even the Nazis who left a huge amphitheater here. Oh and if you fancy a trip to a neighboring city, pick Mannheim. It is one that has close links to Heildelberg.
On a side note, Heidlelberg also has one of the free universities for internationals in Germany so it is a pretty multicultural place. Obviously, along with the tourists, you will see a lot of young faces in the area too!
All in all, Heidelberg is a beautiful city and you’re sure to love your time here. It is without doubt one of the best locations to spend September in Europe.

Getting There: Ericeira is located 50 kilometers from the center of Lisbon. You can get there quickly by flying into Lisbon airport and renting a car to drive to Ericeira. Having a car is necessary to explore the area and its many beaches.
Alternatively, you can also get there by public transport by taking the red line metro from the airport to Alameda station and afterward the green line to Campo Grande Bus Station. From there, buses depart twice per hour from platforms 24 and 25.
Where to stay: If you’re a backpacker then Olive3 hostel in the center of Ericeira is an excellent choice. Other great accommodation options are Sandhi House for yoga and wellness and Eco Soul Guesthouse if you prefer to stay outside the center in a quiet location.
