Sungai Liang Forest Recreation Park: A Popular Trail!

Sungai Liang Forest Recreation Park: A Popular Trail!

Located 37 kilometres away from Kuala Belait is Sungai Liang Forest Recreation park. It is also the first among many of the forest reserves and recreational parks in Brunei that I visited. Due to its proximity to Kuala Belait and Seria, it is also one of the most frequented parks in the area.

Ironically when I first visited the park, I headed in via a different entrance. It was only later that I realized that there was more to Sungai Liang Forest Recreational park than met the eye. Unfortunately for me, I never had a chance to visit the park as many times as I would have liked.

The Park Entrance To Sungai Liang Recreational Park

The Sungai Liang Forest Recreation Park entrance is clearly marked on Google maps and is on the main road. It has a parking lot which is can accommodate a decent amount of cars and is well maintained.

Like most of the rest of the recreational parks and forest reserves in Brunei, this one too did not have an entrance fee. In fact, since we visited it during Ramadan the second time round, we found it absolutely deserted.

Things To Do And See In Sungai Liang Forest Recreation Park

The recreational park was surprisingly large and when we first visited it, I think I did not really appreciate just how much. This was largely because we did not use the main entrance.

1. The Kids Play Area

The park had a kids play area close to the entrance. It was well maintained and while there were no kids playing when we entered (I guess because of Ramadan), it seemed well maintained.

I love the fact that they included spots for children to entertain themselves in the park along side activities that adults could undertake. It made the park a place for both singles and families.

Like most places in Brunei, this one is usually uncrowded and safe. In fact, it remains one of my favorite spots in the city.

2. The Swimming Pool

As I was wandering about, I noticed that there was a huge pool that connected through and was labelled swimming pool. The water was green and the depth was 7.5 metres so I definitely did not see myself getting in.

It was interesting to note that there was a public swimming pool though. The water overflowed from there into a channel and headed to a pond where you could see fish swimming.

3. The Main Trail

We reached the park rather late so we did not head out on the main trail especially since I was already tired but I hope that Shawn and his colleagues can explore it at another date.

The trail starts close to the entrance of the park and the beginning of it was a stairway heading up the mountain. I’ll update this when I have more information to share.

KABOON: The Sungai Liang Trail

Sungai Liang trail

A glimpse of one of the trails at Sungai Liang Forest Recreation Park.

The first time around, we took the diversion ahead of the main park entrance and headed to a parking lot which seemed to be behind the park itself. The trail snaked across the hillocks and it provided a couple of gorgeous views at the hill tops.

Shawn mentioned that his colleagues had told him that the trail was originally a mountain bike trail which was currently used by trekkers. The trail isn’t that difficult but there are some parts that you may find a bit challenging.

As I mentioned before, the Sungai Liang Forest Recreation is a great place to raise your heart rate on a peaceful trail. It is close enough that it can be visited after work hours and it is nice enough that you would want to visit again.

Have you been to Sungai Liang Forest Recreation Park? What did you think of it?
