Right in the center of Bali lies a small village called ‘Ubud’. It is a place well known for its rice fields and its Indonesian experience. You will however find that Ubud will surprise you just as it surprised us. We went there expecting a small quiet village but we found a bustling city.
Yes! Even during the off season, Ubud continues to attract large amounts of tourists. Its attractions and its close proximity to Mount Batur make it a perfect location to stop at.
Ubud is one of the most travel friendly places in the whole of Indonesia. It has all the things that a most travelers on a budget look for. The people are friendly, the place is accessible, the food/accommodation in Ubud is cheap and there is just so much that you can do.
The village offers you the opportunity to relax and enjoy nature or hop from place to place taking in the sights. A lot of things can be done on a rented motorbike or you can join a group and get a guide. It is a place that you must add to your list if your are planning an itinerary through Indonesia.

Exploring Ubud
With just two and a half days in Ubud we had little time to cover everything but that didn’t daunt us. We budgeted our way through the entire trip so we aimed to strike a balance between cost and value. The following 8 items made our list.

Like I said before cost was a big criteria when it came to choosing our activities. ATV Quad racing, river rafting, horse riding etc were some of the activities that we missed. Cost wasn’t our only problem, time was too. With just two and a half days in the village we had a lot of ground to cover. There were a number of temples in the vicinity but we chose to visit just one.
Ubud In A Nutshell
- Ubud is a predominantly Hindu village located in the center of Bali. Its popularity is largely due to its strategic location.
- Arts is a large part of the culture. These include painting, dancing, singing and carving both on stone and on wood.
- There is a lot to do so make sure that you dedicate more than two days in your itinerary to see the village’s beauty.
- Ask the locals where to eat. They will never guide you wrong.
